Radio Paradise: Re using and old iPhone with nDAC

I thought some nDAC users might like to plugging and old iPhone into a USB port on an nDAC to listen to Radio Paradise.

Their app has a really handy cache feature. This permits complete control from the Naim remote supplied with the nDAC.

Press ‘8’ to skip a track if you wish. Press ‘9’ to pause the stream.

One can of course use the live stream but the music may be interrupted sometimes if you press 8 to skip....

I didn't know there was a Radio Paradise App, but I've just tried this on the FLAC setting into my NDAC. Very nice!

There are Radio Paradise apps for iOS, Android and OSX which all now support FLAC. It’s a nice improvement in sound quality.

how do you get RP to play flac on OSX its greyed out on my ipod touch only 'ultra' ? The flac stream on android, Samgsung S8 sounds better than 'ultra' but I need my phne as a phone

I presume you mean iOS? It’s possible that iPods don’t support this, you could ask RP. Works fine on iPhone.

I don’t have an NDS - it’s an NDAC. I connect the iPhone to that via the front panel USB and an iPhone usb connector. I haven’t checked but expect the NDS has a similar USB port.

The NDS has also in front panel USB where i can also listen to my music files, i understand this is the place.

I connected my iPhone into NDS via USB in front but i do not hear any sound from radio paradise, i can hear only from my IPhone, is there anything i did wrong? need help.... thanks

You have to ‘trick’ the iPhone into first playing music from its own locally stored music, I navigate via the front panel on the NDS assuming you have music on the phone and play a bit of any track and then when you switch to the Paradise app magically it will come out of your NDS.

In my case, it just worked when I plugged it in - no tricking necessary.

I just tried with an an iPhone 5SE - connected via the cable and then fired up the RP App on the iPhone - it worked with no fiddling. Then I tried with an old iPhone 4S, I fired up RP first, then connected it and it worked. I switched over to the Music App to play an iTunes track, then back, and that worked too. I'd expect the NDAC to work the same as the NDS for this. So I am not sure what the problem is in your set up. You could try to see if any other music App works from the iPhone to the NDS. That would tell you whether it is RP itself or the more general settings that are the problem.

You can, of course, just play just play RP as an internet radio station on the NDS itself at 320 bps, but i don't know if you get FLAC as well.

Unfortunately you don’t, which is why people are looking for workarounds like this to use on Naim streamers. On the new streaming platform you can use Airplay from an iOS or OSX device to send the FLAC stream from the RP app.

It’s early days in the development of this stream by RP, and they have hinted that they may be able to make it more widely available in future - time will tell.
