20,000 tracks database

Posted by: Jasom on 16 November 2017

Hi there,

I have my FLAC files organised on a Synology NAS. However, when I last checked, there was some 33,000 or so. Is this going to be a problem using something from Naim?

I've read the limit is 20,000.

Any advice appreciated.

No, there are many people on this forum with much larger collections than you - including myself (between 11.000 and 12.000 full albums). Of course the speed of search etc can be affected - but if you have a good server that is even not noticable.

Don't worry, my NAS tells me I have 144,357 flac tracks which stream and respond instantaneously.

IIRC, the 20,000 limit was in the original announcements that dealers put up on their sites, and was the size of the database you could serve from the Atom, Star andNova when they were used as ripper/servers. (Back when the Atom/Nova were envisaged as ripping from an external drive.) I've seen no limit on the size of NAS database the Unitis can address, and in general they wouldn't know, unless you click "all tracks" they'll see the set that is presented by the NAS software.

I suspect that googling naim database 20000 will still find archived copies of the dealer release. (Yep, tried it, found it on a dealer page about half way down the 1st page of hits.)

I too have a very large collection.

The only problem I have noticed with a large collection of files on my QNAP NAS (using Asset), is that, for instance, when I use AlbumArtist>Artist>first letter (e.g A or B), then the list isn't fully populated, but if I 'go back' then in again, it will fill up.  I sometimes have to do this a couple of times with a letter which has a very large number of artists.

Annoying, but still quicker than climbing on a chair to find/get a CD, put it in the player, then select the track I want.
