Muso QB randomly fired up Spotify last night after we went to bed

Posted by: Peter Earnshaw on 20 November 2017

What it says in the title - any ideas why? I don't have Spotify premium and last used my free account months ago. We have the Muso Qb in our bedroom on a chest of drawers and were drifting off to sleep at about 11pm when all of a sudden it just started up and played something or other. I raced over to turn it off (we have two kids under 3 and didn't want to wake them) and saw the Spotify logo was illuminated before I hit the 'off' button on top. From memory, I have never used Spotify with this device.

Any ideas....?

Has anyone else ever used Spotify on your Muso? It’s a quirk of Spotify Connect that once connected to a device, it will reconnect to it in future when the user reopens it, even if they are in a different location.

Hi Chris, thanks for the insight.

Actually I did have a couple of friends over about a month ago and over a bottle of wine or five we argued the merits of Spotify Premium versus Tidal whilst listening to the main system (N272/555+ATC SCM50ASL). One of them was using Spotify on his iPhone to tell the N272 to play various tracks and the other was using his login credentials to play Tidal (I don't have Tidal at present; with two <3yr olds Im just not blessed enough with listening time to make it worthwhile).

I alos have a Mu-so in the study; so that's 3 Naim streaming devices, the Qb in the bedroom, Muso in the study and 272 in the main room. However, to my knowledge unless there was an error in setting up Spotify at some point, my pal with the penchant for Spotify never connected to the Qb and only connected to the 272 (which has remained blissfully silent).

So I'm confused, basically.

I bet it's in some way like Chris says. If you reset the QB to factory settings, it purges any knowledge of your friend's Spotify account. Possibly worth a try anyway?

You could ask your friend if he opened his Spotify app at the time when your Muso fired up, to confirm that it is the issue. I haven't used Spotify for some time, and I'm not sure exactly how it makes the connection, but I suspect this is the reason.

So it appears that the Spotify app may or may not have been opened at that time but that the only external device defined to him is the one for the n272 not either of my Musos.

nat issue with my router maybe?

Reminded of the story in the paper the other day about some fellow living in Hamburg who spent the night out (apparently in a pub) on the Reeperbahn. While he was out, music started to play so loud that the neighbours complained to the police, who came round and broke open the door only to discover Alexa throwing a wild party on her own!
