Forget fancy Ethernet cables, you need...

Whilst searching for cables earlier i came across a product which may be of interest to those who like to fiddle with their network.
We have discovered that both Ethernet Router and Switch benefit sonically from from being supported by our ballbearing tripod supports. Easy to fit in seconds under your Router or Switch - either or both. You may be amazed, or even very surprised indeed at the improvement in clarity, tunefulness, dynamics and harmonics that this very simple, easily reversible, modification will bring.
Google 'ethernet-router-switch-supports' and you will find
It's going to never end...
Chris Mundy from Wakefield described the effect as ‘Night & Day’. Best get on the phone to order, and only £15 a set.
I wonder how even greater that effect would be if one was listening to the Cole Porter's song.
But will they take the weight of a Cisco 2960 ???

Blu-tac works a treat for that I find...

Chris sounds a bit of a sceptic.
I doubt you’d convince him shaking a burndy cable will significantly improve SQ.
Just imagine the improvement everyone would get, if the whole internet was on ball bearings. I'm going to phone Virgin to ask them to put balls under the green cabinet down the street, to see if it will solve my latency problem.
You could try syrup of figs.
Takes me back to the days of Jimmy Hughes in Hi-Fi News around the mid-80's.
I recall Jimmy's advice regarding speaker cable - just nip down to your local DIY store (probably Texas or Payless in those days) and grab a few metres of solid core mains cable and use it as speaker cable - Ummmm dear old Jimmy he'd love this.
I remember he also had his speakers facing the back wall. Never had the nerve to try that one.
I remember that fad of turning the speakers to face the wall. I tried it (because it was easy to do). It made a difference.

Got me thinking it was Jimmy in Hi Fi Answers and not Hi Fi News.

Mine face the back wall permanently.
...I sit in front of them, with the back wall behind me.

The rantings of some people (another name coming to mind at about that time was Peter Belt), given print space in the hifi press of the time, tainted the hifi review industry en-masse and were directly responsible for my abandonment of buying and regular reading hifi magazines, and as it did for some other people I knew at the time.
Yes it was HiFi Answers - I used to read it. Inspired me to get my Rega Planar/Nytech system in the 70's.
Those speaker stands look interesting too!
I was trying to work it out - They look like Impulse speakers, another pair on top (possibly Arcam 2 as i remember he liked those in the HFA days) and some form of horn tweeter on top of those.
I remember him having the Linn Naim active system with PMS Isobariks and then moving to a brace of Krells to replace the 250s- must have been a bit toasty in the summer !!!

Great fun though - as a student doing upgrades by placing a piece of paper under 1 of 4 spikes, or aligning the screw heads in sockets/plugs, filing lines on sockets all seemed to be very cheap upgrades you could try at home ;-)
Peter Belt has passed away, I found an article suggesting we was well respected in many circles, and even if some of the things seemed strange he did have faith in them and was certainly not out to rip people off even if some would argue they were placebo effects.
Realistically I suspect most of the general public would regard dropping several thousand pounds on 'power supplies' and 'cables' to be barmy even if they could undertsand high quality components in other areas. When you think about it expensive equipment supports, different platter materials on turntables, connectors/interconnects etc etc must all seem excessive to most.
Peter Belt had an interesting point of view. There are two bits to the hi fi puzzle - the generated sound field and the detector (aka human). You can change what the detector hears by either changing the sound field (better boxes, or different placement) or changing the human. Most of PBs tweaks were designed to change the human.

Either the human or the ambient surroundings which affected the way sound was perceived.
Did anyone else ever clean mains plug pins with Brillo or other cleaners????

Jimmy used to be very sensible, as did his editor Paul Benson, until the latter started channelling Peter Belt.
I (very) briefly wrote for Hi-Fi Answers in the 70s as a reader’s letters answerer. Probably explains a lot about me.
My main switch sits in a network cupboard as it should do. So now I am concerned I am not getting the most from my hifi.
As this is a wall mount cupboard, my plan is to take it down and carefully balance it on some ball bearings. I am not sure what to do with the 48 ethernet cables going into it, half of which is Cat6 so very stiff, perhaps I could get some of those expensive wood risers for each and every one?
The router presents a new challange as its a i5 Dell optiplex PC, perhaps I can carefully balance this too on ball bearings, careful to make sure the wires on the back don't touch, why I'll be the talk of the town with my fancy hifi sounds.
These are the costs of getting those extra 1 percenters out of our copies of dark side of the moon eh?
Don't forget a round-bottomed bowl filled to the brim water positioned on one corner of the top of the Router, and when you say you'll put it on ball bearings, surely you mean a single ball to avoid negative electromagnetic rotational coupling between balls, and remember to use a spirit level to get the Dell perfectly level on the ball bearing : crossed laser beams to avoid the spirit level contacting the Dell would avoid upsetting the water bowl when you've finished levelling.
I have the 2960 which made a box change improvement, but its i currently standing on its side behind the tv, i just wanted it out of sight, might look into better positioning and support tweaks.
Why?
