Naim & Tannoy

I'm also interested in forumite views. I think the old-school Tannoys look fabulous. 

Those new Tannoy Legacy speakers do have a whiff of the hairy chest with open collars about them. Quite a few new speakers are following a move away from the slim tower, towards a bigger cabinet and drivers at more realistic prices.  Good news for those who like yourself find the slim towers too dry.

Should be fine with a SN2 I would imagine, although being very sensitive will need a little larger room - can move serious air with little power.

As a caution ! If you do settle with this system you might run into the dreaded channel imbalance issue with Naim volume at very low levels for late night listening.

I have tested old style Tannoy Berkelys, Little Red Monitors, and Little Gold Monitors with my Naim system, albeit an old style Chrome bumper one.  The Tannoys sound incredible and reach insane volumes with incredible clarity. The big Berkelys were on another level and it was like having a nightclub soundsystem in my lounge.  Needless to say my wife appreciated this - cough

My room isn't really that big and I normally run SBL's, but all the above mentioned Tannoys worked well in the space without any bloating or distortion of SQ.

If you go for an old pair I would recommend that you check the crossover / fuses / caps within, as I had to do some work on all the pairs i've had.  I've also had to refoam a couple of them and change out tweeters too, and even re-cone the LRM's.  I have leaned a lot doing this, and the effort was worth it. 

If you're looking at a new pair I would say that the sound should be similar in nature as the design and drivers (concentric) are the same same pretty much.  I love the classic design of Tannoys too, not a bad way to spend your money if you ask me!

I have to admit that I'm surprised how taken I am by the cabinets. I'm a long time tower guy but the sound is what matters. And my girlfriend is Scottish raised so she's down with them.

Wow, I didn’t know they’d ‘re-released’ the Arden! I remember including the original in my mammoth audition of a dozen or so speakers in the then fairly lofty £250-£300 price bracket back in about 1975. It didn’t come top, but it was a definite contender - unlike the majority which were rejected on first play as sounding awful.

But sorry, no, I can’t help with the question in hand.

All i can say is wow. Works perfect together. For my ears.

Just pure music in my room-totaly in love.

I am really please Tannoy have re-released some of the old range, one day I will have a pair!

Very cool! I like the whole line but space only permits so much speaker. It's interesting to hear the Nova works so well. A cursory glance at it's specs suggests to me that it is quite close to the Supernait 2.

I'm familiar with the dread pirate Roberts. Dread channel imbalance not so much. What happens when?

On most Naim kit they use the blue alps volume potentiometer. A very high quality item, although when just taken out a fraction from end stop 0, some have noticed an imbalance of volume from either the left or right outputs.  Taking it out further everything's right as it should be.  Not something that would be noticed with low or even average sensitivity speakers when listening at very low volume, but something you might if using very sensitive speakers like the Tannoys. That's if late night listening is important to you of course.
