Naim & Tannoy
Posted by: GuyCaballero on 05 December 2017
As previously mentioned I have a loose plan to upgrade a chunk of the system in the new year/next summer. First up will be a Supernait 2 & then some speakers.
The current set up is a:
Nait XS 2, B & W CM6 S2, Audioquest bi wired Rocket 88's, CD5X coupled to a Flatcap 2 that also powers a Stageline (moving coil) & Rega PS2 with an Ortofon 2M Bronze needle.
I recently had a chance to audition a pair of PMC twenty5.24 which were quite amazing especially when you consider they're a 2 way but I found them too crisp for my liking. The dealer then suggested the new Tannoy so we popped downstairs where the Arden were set up. After wrapping my head around how big they are the sound floored me. My room isn't big enough for those ones so I've started wondering about the Eaton & Stirling.
Here's my question: has anybody run either the Eaton or Stirling with a Supernait 2? I'm wondering about how it would power them & if Naim plays well with Tannoy. Short of hauling my amp over to the store or somehow maybe borrowing a pair overnight I'd like to get some real world thoughts. Having listened to B & W in many iterations over the years I find it hard to put into words how good the Tannoy sounded. Of course I've had to get over my notions that cabinets like that still belong firmly in the 70's! I had pals that had big boxy JBL & I could never figure out why they wanted those big cabs when the smaller newer sounded even better but that's another thread for another time.
Cheers all.
