The frustration

Having spent some tine determining whether a set of Fraim tables was the way forward, it was gratifying that the wait between order placed and box arrival was a matter of a few days.

With only an hour or so before needing to go out, I decided that I would just have time to build the first base. Bother, the box had the wrong ‘lite shelves instead of full Fraim shelves. Opened second  base box and the same wrong shelves were there. Were my expectations incorrect, all the other bits were there?

Called my helpful dealer. Naim have got it wrong. Both base boxes had been packed incorrectly. The full Fraim shelf box contents were (and still are) correct, though. A bit of a QC error.

England’s expected humiliation in The Ashes lifted my spirits somewhat.

Ooops...  a rookie error by the sound of things.  I hope Naim and your dealer get the right bases to you ASAP.

Yes, I know it will get sorted, hence my use of the word 'frustration'. The glass I have had to order to accommodate the CD player is at least a week away, so no great harm done.

I'm sure it'll be worth the wait Nick. It can be frustrating to have one's crescendo of excitement  so cruelly flattened - heads should roll!

Never had any problems with receiving wrong or damaged goods when ordering new kit from Naim.

However once when I got my CD player back from repair, the locking screw for the drawer mechanism had not been fitted and the whole thing was wonky.

They did sort it out pronto though.

I had a damaged shelf once when I picked it up from my dealer. A big dink in it even though the outer box was in good order. Naim blamed the courier (??) but it was clearly a QC issue.

no quibble over replacing though, credit to naim.

Your dealer is on the case.......it will get sorted as you know. I have to wait to install my Fraim after the Xmas tree has been installed and removed. Lost the battle, but won the war.......new year I get the 2 base Fraim, and 4 shelves for hifi, instead using it for Xmas cards. But Santa did get me a 300 DR, very happy tonight.

In my world Christmas trees are banned. I might permit our twig with the dead robin, but that is it.

And yes, Tony, but I am not sure it was anything like a crescendo, more like a wimper

I apologise for conflating two threads (this one and the Ashes thread from the Paddd Cell) but I have a question for Nick who has a part in both.

If you had a choice would you prefer to have received the correct shelves from Naim but have lost the Adelaide test or the opposite way as in fact things have turned out?

Well, TheBigFredC or Ray, I had no part to play in the cricket. I simply choose to support anybody-other-than England. In the case of the Ashes that means I support Australia. I will always take an England loss over anything else, but given their lack of form and the incompetence of the players, it is rather like betting on the sun to not rise in the morning.

Anyway, all sorted out and the new shelves were ready for collection on Friday. It took rather longer to get the system back together than I had anticipated and it wasn't until late on Saturday we were able to listen to it again, But after the trauma of lifting the CD player into position we delayed the record deck until today.

Everything back in full operation now. One mild frustration, akin to the Australian XI not beating the England X! in the 2-day bore match, is that the S'Line cannot be placed centrally because the phono inputs would be directly in front of the rear support . The TMS supply having a red LED is another minor source of irritation as well.

Nice looking Wadia Nick, it looks poised/purposeful.

Hi Nick

You could try rotating the rear Fraim support 60 or 90 degrees to fit the Superline in.

And then I would know it was out of place! Which but of my OCD is worse, a non-central S'Line or a leg out of kilter? In the latter, as the bottom leg supporting a lot of weight their could be some deleterious sonic effect. I have at least rationalised the S'Line position as being almost as far away as possible from any PSU/transformer.

A brief trip to my dealer last night (coffee delivery) coincided with their taking delivery of a pair of Focal Scala Utopia Evo speakers. On the end of Statements it made my little system sound utterly dead and devoid of life, for at least the first hour or so once I got home. Aural memory is, fortunately, short-lived
