Swiss Army Knife

Posted by: Massimo Bertola on 09 December 2017

As someone can perhaps have seen, my previous post with the same title has been first moderated and then deleted (by myself). I thought it was funny, and not offensive, but it must have been considered otherwise at least by Moderators, because I have been privately and publicly 'rebuked', although in a mannered and friendly way. But substance is substance, and censorship is censorship. I can't accept censorship. So:

A) I'll rewrite my original post declaring, more simply, that the forum's Swiss Army Knife is NOT sense of humour (and I hope this is just a temporary loss of an important National Trait due to the wretched BREXIT, which changed the mood of many);

B) And that I've asked, once and for good, that my account be canceled. The very few people I've known here whom I like have my email address, so I see no reason to go on taking part in a feast of identical to themselves topics either by people with too much money and too little brain, or by simple minds who don't even have an idea of how to read the manual to plug the mains.

I am sorry, but I have enough. It's the second time I pay for a member's amor proprio, and have enough of it even if I considered myself his friend. Still.

Massimo.

IB,

thanks for your good words. My very simple truth (but what labour to get to it!) is that I don't completely understand the nature and social structure of forums (or, to be honest, am not really interested in them), so I tend to be a sort of loose dog. It is actually the third or fourth time I think I have reasons to leave, but since this is not a real place but a virtual space where one interacts with ritual* identities occasionally being spontaneous and sincere (especially when amor proprio is concerned) what use abandoning a non-existing place? Much simpler to *stay* and intervene if and whenever one wishes to do so.

* I had digitized virtual, but my Mac's corrector preferred ritual ; I thought it was a good suggestion, and left it.

Excellent, yes.  And as this particular loose dog doesn't have rabies or bite, then you'll be most welcome here (at least by the vast majority of members).

And that is a pretty neat summation of an internet forum (and 'ritual identity' does indeed have a curiously apt meaning that seems to fit!!

I have wound this thread back a bit, and removed some posts.

Please note that any reference in a post that either specifies or implies committing violence against other members is totally unacceptable.  Where a specific threat is made there's zero tolerance on this and will result in an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

Mr Dane,

thanks for restoring the thread, since I had worked a bit to contribute with care and sincerely felt concepts, other than mentioning Max_B's issues but trying not to be invasive or indiscreet. Yet, what you call specific threats in my view were not specific at all: One member mentioned, very passingly, that he (* quote: please no need to moderate) 'would have put his hands on some members' face', but it seemed to me rather generic and not very threatening. He didn't mention any names. I remember that someone else agreed, at an equally imaginary and very subjective level: nobody specific was threatened. It could even have been myself.

I don't think that any of us would be so rude and so naive to publicly threaten a member (whose name/Naim, most of the times, is unknown). But I understand something I had never reflected on, strangely: that you not only read all of the posts, but also requests for moderation, removal, general complaints and all sort of other nuisances. So I'll accept with no regret losing the many thoughts I had committed to these pages, whose visibility and importance I have, evidently,  respectively under- and over-rated.

Friendly

AC

Is it me or is the forum going through a bit of a strange phase at the moment. Thanks goodness for the Music Room !

AC, I actually called them specific or implied threats of violence.  Either way, they are totally unacceptable, whether "in jest" or in deadly earnest.  They have no place here. And that's not something that's up for debate.

Very clear, thanks. So I won't lose any more time wondering here what's the difference between an imaginary slap and a joking sexual invitation.

I think the Consulting Room may be more appropriate, but yes i understand it's the area where discussion is more 'varied'

Hence more subject to 'corrections'.

Its not just you James,  for me the forum has become very uninteresting in recent times,  it pops up the odd bright thread now & then,  but most are not piquing my interest.   I guess there is only so much to talk about with equipment,  & there's only so many same old same old turns around brexit (or another) merrygoround to be made before boredom or insanity takes hold.    Its a pity folks can't get the fact thats its only a forum,  it is not life or death,  & please be beware of the trolls lurking in the undergrowth.      TBH I'm most interested in the beta stuff,  but that's like watching paint dry these days.

I thought trolls were supposed to lurk under bridges?

Posted on: 11 December 2017 by Mike-B

Trolls only lurk under Norwegian bridges,  we don't get that many Norwegian bridges in rural Oxfurdshy'r,  we 'as plenty o' dingy dank dark woods & dats where the little #uggers lurk in these parts.

Only 6 more days until the new System Pics 2018 thread and all will be well again.

Norwegian trolls sleep underground in the daytime and roam around in the forests at night.

I know this 'cause my cousin (from Stavanger) wrote a book about them!
