Core: how to permanently delete albums from internal storage?
Posted by: Chopin29 on 12 December 2017
How to delete some albums loaded on my Core by my Naim dealer, prior to delivery? As I didn’t rip them from CDs, can’t see them on Networked Device on my Mac, can’t find any reference to Remove on the Naim app.
Please, can someone help?
Whoops... have put Core into Sleep mode and tried Networked Device on my Mac once more. Now I can see a list of all albums, and delete to my heart’s content. Apologies to all.
Please be aware that albums in the "Music" folder always need to be deleted via the Naim app, albums in the "Downloads" folder can be deleted using a Windows PC or Mac ...
So, by what means are albums in “Music” folder deleted using the app? I can’t find any reference in the app to deleting anything, and it’s not mentioned in the Core’s Support pages on Naim website. Aaghh.
I am unable to access albums in “Music” folder using my Mac. Have deleted OK from Downloads.
Addendum: my system is Uniti Core and Uniti Nova with Focal Electra Be speakers. I used to have UnitiServe and SuperUniti, and when I used Serve app. I had a UpNp option, which may be the way to delete. With the new Naim app, however, it’s quite different and only offers “Servers”, not a UpNp setting. BTW, I am thrilled with the SQ of my upgraded system, and with the much more functional new app.
Find the album to delete. Press the album cover which opens up into track listing. In the right hand corner are 3 white dots, click on these. A new menu should appear, delete album is half way down the list of options. Hope this helps.
That’s where I looked for it! My menu, which appears as you describe, only has these menu items (and no additional items are scrollable):
“Play album (or, Play this track)
Queue next
Queue last
Go to artist
New playlist”.
Furthermore, I don’t have the capacity to alter metadata, as described in Core Support tips and tricks. I’ve discarded and reloaded the app 3 times on iPhone7Plus, also using on iPad Air 2. Are you using app on Android device?
It sounds like you have not pressed on the album cover of the album you wish to delete, this will then open up to show the track listings. Can you see the track listing? When opened to show the tracks of the album to be deleted, the 3 dots are in the right hand corner, click and delete is in the menu.
Sounds like you have opened the menu from the main album screen showing all the albums, not just the one to be deleted, or looked at in more detail or played etc?
Using latest App on ipad
this problem may be occurring because my library currently is downloads, not ripped discs. I will rip and see whether the problem is solved. Thanks.
Could be. When David Hendon ventures onto the forum, he would hopefully know. But your plan is a good one, worth a try.

Yes that's right. If the albums are stored in the downloads folder, you can't delete them or edit metadata from the Naim app. You have to do it with a PC or a MAC. If you rip a CD on the Core, it will put it into the Music folder under MQ and you mustn't delete or edit those using a PC or MAC. You have to do it with the Naim app in the way that Gazza described.

" If the albums are stored in the downloads folder, you can't delete them or edit metadata from the Naim app."
The obvious question is "why???"

Ah well we know the answer to that, although I can't be bothered to find the posting now, but Trevor in answering that question said they hadn't done it because it wasn't part of the traditional Naim architectural approach (or words to that effect). Sadly I recall being rather rude in my reply.

Thanks so much, everyone, for your valuable input. Much appreciated. (Thanks for your patience, Gazza: but I had opened to album track listing-level, and menu showed no Delete or Metadata Edit option, as described. Now we know why. It's inconsistent.) There is clearly a previous Forum thread on this, which didn't come up in my search.
To avoid new users' frustration, I've suggested Naim include this foible in Support. In my view, the inconsistency doesn't matter, as long as the user IS MADE AWARE OF the difference between deleting downloads and deleting rips.
I'm happy to forgive Naim their logic-foibles, the Naim/Core combo is such an improvement over previous incarnation.
