Chord Hugo 1 bargain used prices.

On the used market the hugely celebrated Chord Hugo 1 now sells for an average £650.  So if you are looking to try one now is the time at less than 50% of the rrp it has to be one of the bargains of the year.

Strangely the Chord 2Qute which cost only 70% of the Hugo 1 new still fetches £750.

I agree the Hugo 1 is still one of the best DACs out there....great bargains to be had...

Big drop in market value after what three years?  Presumably the impact of a new model plus concerns over battery life and long term servicing not guaranteed to be available?

The absence of software updates to Chord DAC and Streamer technology ( apart from buying a new or updated model) is also a factor I suspect.

I suspect you will be to have the Hugos serviced for some time yet... and if you have to, changing the battery is not too challenging so I am told. With regard to software I heard that just about every last piece of memory in the Hugo was used so not much else one could do, and the algorithms have been considered optimal. Clearly if there was a bug to be fixed that would have been different...

I just think that those who want a Chord Hugo have one and lots of those now want a Hugo 2 and have traded in their mark 1's.

Absolute steal at £650. For some reason I don't hanker after Hugo 2 at all. Maybe I should.

I know you are talking about the Hugo really, but the QBD76 and (iirc) DAC64 had (paid for) “software” upgrades over their lifetime.

best thing to do is to replace the battery asap after purchase if its 3 year old  ,it will fail.
