New core firmware and app
Posted by: jon h on 14 December 2017
Apple have finally released new core firmware and app
unfortunately i am in Innsbruck, so wont be able to try this until sunday
"Genres browsing is no loger capped at 200"
which is reassuring. Ish.
Still has the hugely annoying issue where you start the app up on a network with no naim devices, and it sits there sucking its thumb saying "Finding rooms" for the best part of a minute.
No proper splash screen, no immediate cached lookup of previously known devices for fast access
Same old, same old...
Same old flawed setup logic (I stretch the use of the term "logic" here). Why the "Set up new product" at the bottom of the screen, and the "Add room manually" hidden behind the "..." top right? Who knows?
Thanks for the heads up Jon, I have done the Core firmware update. While it updated it indicated quite a number of improvements over and above ripping, too quick to read them all. Hopefully they will update the Uniti update thread.
Richard, if possible can you give someone a nudge to update the thread so we know what the updates were we downloaded. Thanks
(retyped by me)
"- The ripping monitor now gives detailed error reporting
- Detailed feedback for Ripping problems
- Home screen "More ..." item now has a view where you can show albums that ripped with errors
- Improved disc formatting, reliability and user feedback
- Faster and more reliable network share discover
General app improvements include:
- Improvements to TIDAL login
- Genres browsing is no loger (sic) capped at 200
- Faster and more reliable Playlists and favourites
- Improved layout on iPhone X"
No mention of changes to backup/restore. No mention of metadata editing improvements.
This is what i extracted from Naim PR a week or so ago, which covers metadata:
"Yes we intend to release the 2.5 update before Xmas, it is in forum beta now
No we are not implementing manual metadata editing of composer and conductor tags but will now extract these tags from FLAC files on release of V2.5
“Formatting has had a complete overhaul and is infinitely better.”
Here are more detailed release notes
* CD Ripping error detection and reporting improvements.
o The ripping monitor now gives detailed error reporting on read errors on a track by track basis.
o When a CD has finished ripping, the ripping monitor retains the results even if the app is closed when the CD finishes the rip, allowing you to check the result of the rip.
o Home screen "More..." item now has a view where you can show albums that ripped with errors.
o If a CD failed to rip then the eject button LED flashes repeatedly to let the user know the CD has not been imported. The user has to press the eject to retrieve the CD.
* FLAC file handling improvements.
o Composer, conductor and performer tags now read from FLAC file metadata.
* Improved disc formatting, reliability and user feedback.
* Faster and more reliable network share discovery.
* Music indexing improvements - on shares and local drives.
* Local playback stability improvements."
So it will read classical tags from FLAC files which you import (but presumably not rip) but you cant edit them.
Uniti progress thread updated by Trevor Wilson, much along the lines of your post. Let’s try the new firmware and reconvene on the thread to perhaps coordinate what extra is needed?
