Latest Core Update Issues?

Posted by: Kevin C on 14 December 2017

I would be interested to hear if anybody else is now experiencing issues when ripping CD's following the latest release of firmware earlier today to version 2.5(9144).

The CD appears to rip fine, but then when completed it is not being ejected and requires a manual eject?

Another forum member found it needed two factory resets to clear a different issue from the update, so you could try doing a second factory reset.

I imagine that the staff manning the Uniti support line won't know anything about what to do if the update doesn't work as intended and you will probably have to wait for the developers to get back, whenever that is, but not this week I think.

Hi All,

[@mention:73511715426050383], surprised to hear your Core is not ejecting discs after a rip. If a disc completely fails to rip due to it being to damaged or a music store is not available it will hang on to the disc and flash the Eject button as a warning, I'm guessing neither of these issues applies to your setup though. Are you holding down the standby button long enough and actually disconnecting the Core from the mains socket to power it down?

How to do a factory reset:

- NOTE THAT THIS WILL DELETE YOUR FAVOURITES AND PLAYLISTS
- Disconnect the Uniti Core from mains power
- Hold down the standby button
- Connect mains power
Keep holding the standby button until the light above the USB socket flashes. (about 10 seconds)

If this does not help then we can log into your unit with your assistance at the beginning of next week if it is convenient to resolve this issue

Regarding comments on importing music and editing metadata, if you do an import from a UnitiServe/HDX store then the music will be imported into the Uniti Core "Store" folder and you will be able to edit the metadata using the Naim app. If the source of imported music does not look like it originated from a Naim product then the music goes to the download folder. If you want to edit metadata in the Downloads folder use one of many third party editors to edit the tags, the Core will pick up the metadata changes automatically.

[@mention:1566878603988063] It is explained above in my posts, but after the firmware upgrade on receipt of the demo Core the lights all stayed on apart from the CD eject button when standby was pressed. It didn’t want to accept a CD. The fault cleared when it was powered off for an extended 20 minutes. It then ripped ok and went into standby on its own with just the standby light on (Naim off and CD off).

[@mention:1566878603988063] I Created a Music Store on my NAS and it then decided to copy the internal Music Store to the new Music Store. I then switched back to the internal Music Store and when I started an import of a network share it copied the contents to both putting the HD tracks of the download folder in both the internal Music Store and the NAS Copy! I think I then powered it off over night and it seem to behave better apart from not ripping. I then reverted to the NAS Music Store as I wanted to be able to return the demo Core as I received it.

I got the ripping going with a new Music Store for my music rather than use the previous one with the music I did not own, and that was reasonably ok and it managed some classical music. Mostly I found  CD covers an issue rather than not finding the metadata, but I found it hard to find them as well probably because there were too many reissues and getting the title right helps.

Now to the above point so you understand the timeline. After ripping I decided as a test to add a smallish share to the same Music Store. I’ve shown the structure below

The ripped music is in the Music folder rather than the Download folder. It all came from a UnitiServe Music Store held on the NAS. Obviously I want to be able to edit the metadata with the Core if I am to prefer the Core over the UnitiServe SSD I also have on loan. The imported music was ripped a year ago when I loaded another UnitiServe. I gave up after discovering the first release of the Core managed the metadata.

Hope this helps fix a bug or two. Happy New Year!

Firmware update problem :-(

Just installed 2.5 and now there is now respond using my NDS to play uPnP. Playing radio and my second QNap NAS work just fine.

In iPhone app I can see all artist etc  but trying to play it just won't start. Trying manually from NDS no artist is found. Changing to Core in in app works fine and the "play" function will also start. I see no jpg cover anymore. I have tried factory reset.

Please advise!

Did you try restarting the app?

And you could try a second factory reset on the Core. Further back in this thread another member did it twice and it solved his issue. Also after the reset I suggest you take the power off the Core and restart it as well.

Thanks for answer David

Yes I have tried a second reset and also did an extra restart as You suggested, but no luck...

Posted on: 07 January 2018 by David Hendon

And you tried restarting your NDS too I assume?

Yes and now trying to copy files from Core via Windows doesn't work any more so now I'm getting nervous.

Is there a way to go back to 1.5?

In my experience the Core needs to be turned off for 10-15 minutes at least to fully discharge. I’m not the only one to find this. Try building it’s database as well.

I don't know how to do that. There does seem to be an issue with the network sharing on the Core post update, although having said that, mine is fine (small comfort for you I know).

You should anyway be able to navigate to the Core downloads folder using windows Explorer by putting the IP address in. You get that from the app.

I have made a rebuild too but no change. Also trying to navigate via IP, but no contact. Ping works.

Now started backup from app and it tells me it's in progress, I hope so

The only other suggestion I have is to restart your router. Sometimes everything else works but some aspect of discovery doesn't until you restart your router. But I suspect you have a conversation with Naim support in your future and if that doesn't help, then I suggest taking your Core back to your dealer to check it there on their system and to send it back to Salisbury if necessary.

Yes everything has been restarted and I also temporary switched the routers and cables and so on...

I got my demo NDX + XPSDR this morning and was quite impressed by the ease with which it set itself up.

However, although it play from the UnitiServe and Twonky on my Lenovo IX2, it won’t play anything from the Core.  The tracks get queued and then it just says Can’t play: Track Skipped. Needless to say the Core itself can play music via the App.

Any ideas?

Phil, not sure if this is possible on the NDX. I prefer Spdif from the Core to my Nova. I have to set the Nova in the App to the digital BNC input, then go in the App to select Core, choose album, and then play from the Core App. Worth a try

try to restart the ndx and reinstall the app. I have sometimes the same issue with my nds and unitserve, using the app.  Ndx is normally better in upnp, so i hope it will work again for you.

The core has also some issues....

Thanks for your replies. I have emailed Phil Harris. I have the same problem from the remote so it’s in the NDX itself. I have powered it down several times and restarted the App to no avail.

Everything else works except the Core uPnP!

I  tried TIDAL on my iPad into the nDAC + XPSDR and it sounds really good and better than the NDX + XPSDR (a loan as well) at the moment. My dealer did not think it worth trying the iPad!

I’m sure the Core issues will be sorted out and it will be a great product, but these issues are annoying.
