System Pics 2018

Welcome to System Pics 2018.

To start things off, here are a couple of pictures of my setup. There have been some big changes over the past year; a 300 and a 555PS, and some extra shelves to accommodate them.

Honestly, I'm really sorry to have to ask as the standard response is look at the FAQS forum, but I've done that and I can't for the life of me, see "In the Insert/Edit image dialog box (mountain picture button)" anywhere.

Like now, for instance,  as I write this.

Flickr pics url copied and ready to rock.

Please help. This is so complicated!

Hi Mike, if you look at the Add Reply box at the end of the page, the 5th icon from the left (counting from B as the first) is a little square box with a not quite triangle inside (it's 2 to the left from the smiley). That's the one referred to as the mountain picture. If you  hover a mouse over it (if you're not on a tablet/phone) it'll say Insert/Edit image. Click on it and it'll bring up a dialogue box, enter the URL into the Source box. Thewn click OK, and the picture should show in teh reply box.

Bob, please get over it. Don‘t you bore yourself with comments like this...

Because of storage space costs and as Naim provide this as a free service without plaguing us with advertising , therefore, and far more efficiently and in a simple way that was was developed way back when the first web protocols were being developed, one simply inserts the graphic image URI into their post using the forum post editor. Simples....

BTW some web sites will stop you referencing their resources for copyright reasons etc, and therefore this method won’t obviously apply or work...

Themrock, as Simon explains above, this site is kept totally free of any advertising, so all costs for running the site are borne by Naim.  Storing images on the forum increases those costs considerably, so all Naim ask of its members is that they host their images for themselves, which, if you use certain image hosting sites, should be free to each member.

I've pruned (and will continue to do so if need be).  So let's get back on topic please.  Thank you.

Dont you think Naim can handle the cost.

And the Forum is in a good way advertising for Naim itself, so i think ist not a argument for me.

If it helps with a visual,  its as simple as  1 click  2 paste  3  OK

Can't see an Add Reply Box.

Oh wait,  that's the box I'm writing in. D'oh!

Can't see anything else other than the string of social media logos...

As of 11:38, December 28, 2017. The CDX2, originally from 2002, has been recently completely re-built and brought to 2017 specs. As for the rest, well, sorry but it sounds really good. Speaker wires are NAC A5. IC is Vertere Pulse D-Fi. M.

Max

I'd like to hear your story on the re-build of your CDX2 to 2017 spec (I searched but I don't think you've posted).  What brought this about, what changes were made to your player and what do you find they have done to the sound?

Thanks

Olly

Olly,

my CDX2 is originally from 2002, and although it was still going flawlessly, I spoke with my trusted technician at the authorized Italian lab discussing idle matters, among which the Nova, streaming, entering the future etc, and he told me that, in his opinion:

- The current CDX2.2 is a 'definitive' machine;

- That there was a chance to have the new internals from Naim at a good price, and that (in his opinion), if I was intentioned to keep the player, it was absolutely worth doing. I didn't need the digital out, but the mother board also had a dig-out-less option.

- I considered the classic number of options: bettering the NAC A5 and little more. Then, trusting his experience and skills, I decided to do it.

He replaced the mech, the mother board (looks like the current BB1704 is not even more a K but a J, FWIW, so a last version; and completely recapped the analogue stage. It brought it to late 2017 specs without a digital output. But I am not the least interested in external DACs.

He alerted me that it may sound a bit 'hard' for a month or so, but the difference was very evident out of the box. It was richer, with more saturated colours, a more integrated midrange and some more 'drive'. Interestingly, it removed a tad of the SN's signature 'grayness' and controlled and made more tuneful the S-400s' bass. I must say – it's no secret, at this point – that I am using a 3rd party PSU for it, and they seem to work well together. There's life and dynamics, edginess or 'drive' in excess.

I'd say that this systems is not at the level of a perfectly matched and setup separates combo of an higher level, but it has managed making the S-400s the best possible sounding in this room.

Best

Max

Seems like you're having a really grumpy ol' christmas Mike.  It takes years of real dedication to be a proper grumpy ol' git, seems like you're getting there.  Well done my son.

UNCENSORED / UNCLEANED

This is where I watch the Berliner Philharmoniker online. Below the table is the magic: an AV2 and its wingman - an original Nait 5 acting in Power Amp modus. Audioquest Flix 14/4 cable.

30 meters of Lego Duplo tracks are in the drums below the amps.

Thanks R, it was a lucky light and caring for having parallel lines straight. I don't go much further than this as far as pictures are concerned, and the subject was objectively pretty to begin with.
