System Pics 2018

Welcome to System Pics 2018.

To start things off, here are a couple of pictures of my setup. There have been some big changes over the past year; a 300 and a 555PS, and some extra shelves to accommodate them.

Here is my new speakers. Hope they will show up to be a new Sbl...

Elegant, modern room with a large window... And cozy. I find the speakers a tad dark close to the other furniture. I love the armchair(s?), similar to a couple I have and that an architect, friend of my parents', designed and made for them for their marriage, in 1950.

Hi Max! Did not see your reply. Thank you for the compliment. I agree on the Speakers and wondered if should get oak instead, but fell for the tint in the wood of the walnut. The armchair is a new (old looking) Ikea chair.

My System: Nait XS / Cd5i / Chord 2qute / HP Zbook / Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor M

Latest set up with Qute 2 as a full streaming source digital connected to the SN DAC.  And no the Rega Fono MM MKIII next to the Qute makes no difference sound- or noise wise. I'm trying to get a cherry finish Fraimlite level for the CD5si. So anyone with a cherry Fraimlite level but really want a black/silver one let me know.

Beautiful Cremona Auditor M!

So I bought a new Isoblue base shelf and split the stack to help get it out of the way of the speakers - small room and nowhere else for it to go - and carried on up the upgrade path.

After the replacement speakers came the cable (previous lengths too short), I bought Chord Epic, 4-metre lengths.

Found a couple of bargains on eBay. NAP250 replacing the 200 and NAC282 replacing the NAC202 (the need to replace the speakers set me off on a reverse upgrade sequence).

I probably don't need to explain to most here why my reaction to the new level of playback quality was "WOWZAH!"...

Special thanks to Gordon at "Hometech" in Malaga without whom, in this remote location, etc.

MIGHT consider an outboard DAC to fill the empty shelf later on, but for now.....

PS: Trivia note... That nodding head emoji is keeping perfect time with Billy Cobham's "Cancun Market" from the album "Palindromes"...

Hats off to Mike1951, that looks a serious listening room. Majestic.

Btw why is there a little square of sound-proofing on the back wall sticking out proud of the rest?

Hi! Nice Performance! What is its configuration?

The TT config is in my profile (Clearaudio daVinci with Magnify tonearm). The measurement configuration is an entry level digital microscope zooming on the stylus, SRA angle checked with a freeware on the laptop. Eventually managed to take much cleaner pictures than the one shown here and confirmed my set up after realizing that my stulys is of the Gyger type cut and SRA needs to be measured differently than  the majority of styluses. A bit nerve racking as an operation, at least in the beginning; hopefully I am bit wiser after all that!

Whilst my other amp heads over to France to have the latest streaming board fitted, this little beauty is on music duties for the next few weeks. Source is a Sony NW-ZX2 Walkman via a Flashback 3.5mm to DIN cable (thanks Dave) playing files from its internal storage or from my Melco via UPnP. It's the first time i've had the Nait driving my Shahinians and the combination seems to work well. It's had a few hours to warm up and it's all actually sounding rather fine.

Or anything else around 100bpm, such as:

  • Single Ladies by Beyonce
  • Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd
  • Hips Don't Lie by Shakira
  • Rock Your Bodies by Justin Timberlake

Now there's a playlist

Could be useful if ever you find yourself doing CPR then!

Home office system. Since the addition of the LP12 back in December a Supernait2 has now arrived, replacing a Nait 5si which obviously was holding the LP12 back. Needless to say the SN2 has been a huge improvement, and this is only about a week in so further improvement is still to be expected. Now I only need a Uphorik phono stage ... and a speaker upgrade (these are the base level Audiovector SR1) ... But for now I'll just be enjoying the music!

just had the 300 back from Salisbury now DR, really cold and almost dull out of the box - it's taken 2 days to warm up

DR certainly does not give the WOW when you first play,  but can hear the difference only after 2 days of burning in - seperation focus, bass control - vocals - it demands more source to be honest - LP12, NDX,282, HCDR, into B&W 805N -

looking at SCDR for 282 now
