System Pics 2018

Welcome to System Pics 2018.
To start things off, here are a couple of pictures of my setup. There have been some big changes over the past year; a 300 and a 555PS, and some extra shelves to accommodate them.

Nice looking setup Adamxjc, I guess that's a 272 with the XP5xs hope it's brought a nice lift in performance, I use one with my 272 and I think the XP5xs is excellent value.
Yeah I added the xp5 when I changed some cables as well, probably a bit of an error but I took it off the 272 the other day and it was pretty noticeable. All the changes have happened quite quickly so I gotta let it all develop and settle now!
A few changes for 2018, the biggest being a surprise addition of a mint pair of SL2’s , all I can say is wow amazing speakers !
I also moved the NDX/XPSDR on and moved to a Hugo with AlloDigiOne & Roon. The Hugo was a no brainier for me making the NDX a expensive upnp renderer. The Digione and Hugo was it equal for now. Will dem the NDX2 or a s/h NDS later in the year.
Added a Cisco switch and Vodka Streamming cable, minor upgrade but good vfm, in the context of this many black boxes
For now though just getting the SL2 position right (much further from the wall than I expected to tame some boom) and enjoying some amazing tunes.

Congratulations on finding the SL2s. Nice listening room too - very uncluttered.

Very nice system and room.
All I would say is that the LH SL2 is very close to your Fraim, which may be a contributory factor to the boom you heard. But you seemed to have tamed that with moving the speakers out a bit. If boom is still a problem, see if you can move the speakers to the right, although I can see you are contained by the position of the TV.
As an NDS/555DR owner, I would recommend you do indeed try a s/h NDS and you should be able to pick up a bargain when the ND555s start selling and people trade in their NDSs. I would say however that the NDS will only give its best when powered by a 555DR. You could however try an NDS with your XPSDR and if there is a suitable improvement, upgrade to a 555DR later.

Lovely looking set-up, Mort2k, though I must say I think your centre speaker is looking a big saggy ![]()
Congratulations on finding the SL2s Mort2k! They look mint. Would love to hear the story; where you got them from and how you found the set up but maybe for a separate thread....

Thanks Nigel.
Yesh the left side is a bit close, need to experiment with them closer together but they are only about 6.5foot now and the listening position need the width really. At the moment they are in the same spot as the SBL, will keep tweaking.
I let both the NDX and XPS go so will have a clean slate when the new streamers are out and can demo for the best options. I agree though the NDS really deserves a 555 ![]()

Thanks - I will start a thread later more for general info and sharing. I have read your thread from last year it was very informative.

Rob, they look really lovely, and go so well against your wall, which I always think looks particularly nice each time is see it. I’m assuming you followed Richard’s excellent setup guide, which makes a huge difference to the ultimate performance.

That's just begging to be comfortably sat in front off, with maybe a bit of rug cutting when the boogie starts.
A couple of shots of my humble system
Perhaps I''ll have to try again as the speaker fronts are shaded and it looks as if the grilles are still in situ. The rack is situated to the right, as you look , of the bay window so a nice distance from the speakers.Just noticed that the photo does not show that the Spendor's are actually toed in and there is no bass boom in the room due to their positioning so more than happy with my listening position.
Cheers,Alan
I think your system feels a bit shy (rather than humble) - it doesn't really want to be shown ![]()

Still wonder if I should have bought them myself. But having in the last 10 months upgraded from nd5xs to nds, 250 olive to 300 (non dr) and got some used Fraim (still in loft until I work up the energy to pull everything apart and put together) oh and having to replace nVi with some arcam stuff for my new cinema room, and paying for a lot of work on an outbuilding (including creating the cinema room), and being swamped with work so that getting to hear them would have taken quite some time, I needed to pass. May be kicking myself for a long time though...

Hello there. Thanks again ???????? Was not sure if you where on here as well.
Rob
I am
just make sure you tip me off if you find another pair somewhere!

Nice slippers
Nice setup, but lighting is awfully harsh.
It’s just the way the photo was taken. It’s a 6W warm white LED and in reality very mellow.
That's good to hear. I much prefer low/warm lighting when listening to music. I find that it adds to the mood.

Lovely system HH. Nice to see another pair of SL2 off the wall a bit! Thought I was going mad lol
What is the distance between (inside to inside )
cheers
Rob
The speakers are 9cm from the wall (cabinet to wall) which is the closest they can be while using SL cables. It’s the same distance they were when using NACA5. The distance between them (the wider wood parts) is 163cm. When I had SL2s previously I had them closer together, but this seems to work fine. The room is only 3.6m wide.
