System Pics 2018

Welcome to System Pics 2018.
To start things off, here are a couple of pictures of my setup. There have been some big changes over the past year; a 300 and a 555PS, and some extra shelves to accommodate them.
Ha! You know me better than I do then. And it’s much cheaper than the painting above it.

You were robbed!

A few people have twigged where I got it from and what I paid, but lest anyone think I’ve gone spending mad, I paid £1,000 for it, which I thought was pretty good. Hopefully I can recoup that by selling the SVT. The chap I bought it from has a brilliant Smiths collection and used to travel around recording them in the mid 80s. So the Fraim has had a good life, playing great music. I had a cherry one with black legs before, so having maple with silver legs is a nice change. I did um and ah about whether to get it, but I’m so pleased I did.
I had the opportunity to do a back to back comparison of the Fraim verses the SVT a few years back. The Fraim is brighter, more detailed and punchier. The SVT is sweeter and more natural with a lovely musical flow. So it comes down to what you prefer, but the Fraim (new ) is much more expensive and too wide to fit in my room so the SVT was an easy choice for me. With money no object (or a deal on a used Fraim) and more space I would probably go with Fraim, but then again, the SVT is better looking.
What is SVT ?

Supraventricular tachycardia - not the answer here I suspect but there's the issue with acronyms....
I don't think Quadraspire even know what SVT is and they make them.
Well if they do they're not sharing it on their website.
Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be an FAQ either.
Sorry FR can't help you.

KRM talked about SVT rack..... in France, SVT is Science et Vie de la Terre ( science and life of the earth, which is taught in schools).

No problem, KRM will tell us what is SVT rack.

It’s a hi-fi rack made by Quadraspire. Its full name is Sunoko-Vent, but they don’t seem to bother with that these days. It is a silly name.
It’s the rack HH used previously and a great option for those who think the Fraim is a bit pricey or can’t live with its appearance. Bamboo shelves and bronze isolation cones are very good.
I’m shocked to learn that some forum members aren’t following the developments of HH’s system ????
Keith
It’s very prominent on Quadraspire’s website, between Q4 Evo and X Ref.

I only think I know you a little, having spent a little time with you twice (and pleasantly).
You have twice, though, directly or indirectly justified the purchase of it, financially wise: if I may ask, why? First, what do you care about what people think of the way you spend your money? Second, it is completely your own business.
Please enjoy it, period. I always found the other rack awful but it was not my business to judge your choices. I am happy because the Fraim matches the SL2s wonderfully and they say it 'sounds' very fine. But since you've started to buy expensive gear you sometimes seem bound to explain how much and why and etcetera. Please don't. People, as a general category, aren't worth a minute of explanation even of the most obvious thing.
Be happy
M.
For 2018, no system change except the arm:
still NAPSA, tho.

The width of Fraim would also be a problem for me and I too prefer the looks of the SVT. Another factor in SVT's favour is that it is low maintenance: no worrying about whether the balls supporting the glass are still sitting perfect aligned etc.

Same here I could not accommodate two stacks of Fraim so went for a SVT2 in Bamboo.
hungryhalibut posted:No. The 272 is going nowhere, though I may consider its replacement should one ever appear. I thought about an ND555 and a 552, using some of the compensation from my accident, but it’s just so much money. Instead, I’ve put it in the bank to help the boys with house deposits. The system I have is absolutely brilliant and the Fraim has upped things a lot, which I’m now hearing as everything is back on song after being off for an hour or two. It’s all rather wonderful.
I don't think that the NAIM community will ever let you dump the 272 after breaking the world record of how long one can talk about a single silly Hi Fi component.. You are stuck with it.
Hello Kuma
good to see your pictures. Can you describe your change and the reasons for doing so. Do you still have the P3.
hope all well

How someone spends their money is their business. Theirs alone.
I thought this thread was about pictures of hi-fi sets?!
Well, it's now about pictures of hi-fi sets and polished balls. HH started the thread and if he wants to tell us about his polished balls, I for one support him completely. Support is what balls need, after all.
Reminds me, must get the Brasso out and close the curtains.
I find that a good rub on a duster is all that’s required to remove stray hair, grease, dust and general detritus. If you need Brasso your balls must be in a pretty bad state. I’d be worried.
If you need Brasso on your balls I would say they are ready for the Knackers yard?
As mention of balls causes such a titter, here is a picture of my knob, as well as one of my balls.
Oh, those balls. It is all making sense now.
Less confused, of Chesham.
