System Pics 2018
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 17 December 2017
Welcome to System Pics 2018.
To start things off, here are a couple of pictures of my setup. There have been some big changes over the past year; a 300 and a 555PS, and some extra shelves to accommodate them.
Is this System Pics, or Requotes and Reminiscences?

Once again you managed to bring a bad twist to perfectly nice discussion, thanks for that.
What are system pics for if not to inspire discussion? Otherwise it's just a platform for "mine is bigger than yours" or "mine is smaller than yours and I don't want for more, honest".
Maybe, it’s time for another 272 recommendation ! Just a thought ????

I am not able to answer that as I read absolutely "no advice" is permitted on this thread.
I would reply but have had the odd quip thrown in my direction before so best to keep ones light under a bushel I think! Either which way there’s no need from nastiness from any quarter and as far as I’m aware we already have a perfectly good moderator on this forum
Tolerance. It's so over-rated

Sorry if there weren't enough pictures for you in the last few posts, Nigel.
I think my short discourse with Yetizone was on topic, and there wouldn't be much point in the thread if we can't talk about the items in the pictures, but I'll try harder next time to post with some pictures for you.
Not quite a system, but here's a picture of one of my ES-14s in my office - I'm trying them out in place of my Kans, which need a bit of tlc to their cabinets;
Beautiful photo Richard.
Rather lovely, we need a forum visit to the Dane museum of Hifi wonderments in 2019......I feel I might get moderated soon????

I've always loved these speakers.
Richard, lovely picture those speakers look fresh out of the box!
I used a pair of these for many years with a Olive 82,Supercap and 250.Source was a LP12 or CDI I found them a very difficult speaker to upgrade from they were so good, tried SBLs on couple of occasions but the dealer just could not get them to work in my room always returning to the ES14s. I sometimes wonder what they would sound like on the end of my black boxes?
Never got to hear the ES14 - nice example there Richard.
I remember auditioning the ES11s and ending up (via Kans and then ELAs) with Royd Sintras. Happy days
Loved my ES 14s especially driven by my Exposure 16 mono regulated amps. So much so that I progressed to ES25s and finally ES30s. Beautifully built too.
I had always imagined I would own a pair of Epos speakers but never did. See imaginary photo below.
They are indeed lovely speakers, from a time when speakers looked like speakers, rather than bloody pedal bins. In 30 years time will people be all misty eyed about Sopra 2s? I think not.

Blimey! You must have some pretty big pedal-bins in your house, HH.

Well I love my pedal bins just like others like their crappy oak equipment shelves.
‘Misty eyed’ over a pair of speakers? Get a grip. At best they range from the functional/utilitarian (majority of the oblong boxes) to the supremely hideous.
Seriously, I find little aesthetic appeal in any pieces of hi-fi, Naim black boxes included. I appreciate mine is probably a minority view on this forum, but if I could ‘disappear’ it all, just leaving behind the sound I’d do it in a heartbeat. If wall speakers sounded as good as my ProAcs I’d have no hesitation in swapping

Generally for most of the hifi equipment out there I agree with you .... however... it depends on what sort of design you like. I like industrial design and think that the design of NAP S1 and NAP 500DR is stunning and had I got the money to buy one I would certainly incorporate them into the design of my living room. As things stand I have settled on the Star because I think that the design of the Uniti range is superb (and one of, if not the, best looking all in ones out there.
Likewise, there are speakers out there (usually at the higher end of price spectrum) that look stunning.
Kimber SELECT USB KS2416 CU O.5 Meter, best choice with Naim DAC V1.
