System Pics 2018

Welcome to System Pics 2018.

To start things off, here are a couple of pictures of my setup. There have been some big changes over the past year; a 300 and a 555PS, and some extra shelves to accommodate them.

A few changes in recent months which has me smiling every time I listen...

A Melco N1a now feeds the NDS and the 200 has been replaced with a late model 250.2.   Then the final piece of the jigsaw... the Allaes have been replaced by the brilliant and beautiful Sonus Faber Olympica 1's

Looks spot on  Jason lovely setup.

Thanks Hifiman.  It had been a while since I upgraded, then got a bit carried away!  The end result is quite an astonishing improvement and I'm really pleased... penny-less, but pleased!

I've recently set up a media room, using my previous main system, with the addition of a Core:

Which also meant I had my circa original 1985 system spare to use in the games room, converted from a single garage that is next to the media room:

Man cave

Complete with essentials, old A60 amp (just repaired, blew a fuse during set-up), streaming through an old Apple TV:

Man cave

Classic Acoustic Research speakers (22BX):

Another view, more toys:

And view back to the media room. Ideally, multi room would be good, works with airplay from the iMac, but slightly out of sync unfortunately. Beer fridge to the left of course!:

Man cave

The new main system upstairs, Nova and Totem Forest Sigs.

Hi Fi

Don't think I've posted on this thread for about 5 years since we moved house! So inspired by an afternoon of vinyl pleasure and some wrangling with image hosting here goes.

Very nice set up Ian, that looks a prime listening position. May I ask what speakers are they?

Thanks, they are Living Voice IBX RWs. More often paired with valve amplification but they sound great with Naim kit too.

That’s lovely panelling - very Edinburgh. I’m racking my brain - have we met, or have we sold things to each other in the past? I’m sure your memory is better than mine.

Yes, if i remember right i bought a load of fraim from you, at the same time swapping out your silver spacers for the black ones via a third party whose name I forget.

Ah, yes, that must be it. I’ve sold so much stuff in the past, often foolishly, but I’ve met some really nice people along the way. Your new house looks really beautiful.

Meerkat,

I presume you have already experimented with speaker positioning. However, as fellow Twenty5 26 owner, I find I get a more balanced sound with speakers further into the room. Looking at your photo, I would say the back of the speakers to be approximately level with the front of the cabinet. I know all rooms are different and I have the offset of a bay window to achieve the distance from rear wall.

Sorry for late reply...Autumn hols!

I'd love then further in to the room, but they'd be on top of me. My room width is only 3.35 metres. The front of the speakers, to the chair is about 1.8 metres.

Is that speaker orientation as recommended? For time alignment of the drivers it looks like they should be swapped with each other and probably readjusted for toe in to suit but maybe you’ve been through all that and what you have sounds best.

Yes, Living Voice design their speakers to have the tweeters on the inside. I have tried them the other way round just for fun and it takes the life out of the music.

cheers, Ian
