Power-Line for SU

Posted by: DomTomLondon on 20 December 2017

I am thinking of adding a Power-Line to my SuperUniti and wanted to know if anyone here is using one with a SU, and if so, what kind of SQ improvement/change I can expect? Also I'm happy to consider other alternatives. I know Naim now has the new Power-Line Lite as well, but not found many reviews, or comparisons. Thanks.

I used on my Uniti 2. I bought it secondhand. I wouldn't say it's a must buy but I did buy a second one for my 250DR. Again not sure it's a must have but its one less thing I can obsess over now.

I have a Powerline Lite on my SU. I thought that it did make for a noticeable SQ improvement but asked my wife to choose between the Powerline Lite and the standard power connector in a blind test (she didn't know what I was doing) and she chose the PowerLine Lite three times out of three. So even though I don't understand why it makes a difference, I agree that it does.

Interesting I tried and really could not tell the difference. I think the “wife” test is a good idea, sometimes if you really want something to sound better it can affect your judgement.

I had a powerline on my SU and it made more difference than I expected. I had it on extended demo and when I tried removing it there was no doubt it was worth the money so my cheque went in the post. Hard to describe the nature of the change just a bit clearer and a bit better overall.

Thanks for your feedback guys. Right, so in theory there is a noticeable difference, but not everyone will notice ;-)

Guess I will need to home demo one, or both of the Powerlines to see if it will make any difference in my system.

Hey Pev, was this the original PL or the Lite version?

Worth doing a demo, I certainly didn't think a Powerline was worth the money on a SU. Maybe if you can find a used one at the right price - then sell it on if it doesn't work for you.

I already had pretty good DIY cables with quality plugs on the ends.   I was given a PowerLine & tried it on my amp power section & NDX,  I really could not hear a difference.  I also found the PowerLine a bit too long & unwieldy & hard to hide (the dreaded WAF came into play)  & I went back to my own cables.        I've since replaced the cables on my two PSU's with PowerLine Lite's,  although I did not hear a difference,  maybe because they are just powering the PSU's,   they are a lot easier to fold & hide.  But remember I already had good quality DIY cables & plugs.

I must say that even though I don't hear a difference with the PL Lite's,   I do really appreciate the quality,  the IEC plug looks like any other IEC moulded plug,  but look into the detail of how its made & feel how it fits to the IEC pins & its clearly best in class.  Same with the Naim design UK 13a plug,  OK OK it's not a full fat PowerLine plug,  but its a step or two up from the better 13a plugs from the likes of MK.

Yes a home demo is advised.

It was was the full fat Powerline which is now on my Nova. FWIW I passed on the Powerline Lite which comes with the Nova to a friend with a Unitilite and it was a good step up from the standard cable. He was very sceptical about the possibility of a different mains lead making a difference but the improvement was undeniable to our ears.

I must admit I'm glad I had an ex dem item as the stupidly lavish packaging for the original PL is both pointless and  wasteful.

Seems that the Powerline Lite might be the better option then. If it makes a difference it will be good money spent. If I doesn't, it's still a very nice looking cable that doesn't cost stupid money.

I am confused, the power line light that came with my nova is exactly the same as the the normal lead but the plug has a different cable clamp. Definitely nothing scientific going on with it!

Yes Popeye, same cable & IEC moulded plug, only diff is the PL Lite 13a plug.   No confusion.   But does it improve SQ  ??? There’s the real confusio
