Electrical supply

Assuming that Naim equipments are designed to cope with different scenarios of power distribution in and out house, and vastly improve with better quality of power supply (to be checked...), what type of electrical setup do you have or just donĀ“t care about it and spend all your available money on the hifi itself ?

ths for your inputs.

Many forum members, myself included, have reported good results from running their Naim systems on a deducated mains circuit. However, you need to bear in mind that what is recommended for UK users may not conform to safety regulations in other countries, so you should seek local advice. Maybe a Naim dealer or distributor can also advise you.

Try to use a dedicated mains circuit for the HiFi and avoid having lots of electrically noisy stuff plugged-in to your house mains unless you really have to. That is it!

Then you will get a lot of opinion of how to implement the best HiFi circuit. Personally, I found keeping it a simple extra house ring circuit with its own fuse at the fuse box worked well. I've heard some implementations using separate individual runs of large gauge mains wiring for each HiFi box but did not personally like the end result musically. Bigger and more are not always better - just get a separate mains circuit put in that meets all your local regulations and you should be pleased at the reduction in noise and mess in the sound.

The other things I find worth removing are electrically noisy items in your house, wherever they are plugged-in. Unfortunately this is a trial and error thing, but easy to hear - and if you don't hear it then that is good too. Some items with switch-mode supplies are awful and some work fine, so hit and miss I find, but you will eventually find what is bad.

Then enjoy your HiFi and music. The above is the least expensive suggestion that requires only some personal effort and an open mind - plus the cost of the dedicated mains circuit.

Some years ago when decorating the room I have the hi-fi in I took the opportunity to install a dedicated rings-main with its own fuse (RCD) on the distribution box.  This was before I had a naim system so not as revealing as the system I have today. Nonetheless I noticed an immediate uplift in the system's performance. The other benefit was a complete disappearance of those annoying clicks and pops.  Although labour intensive and domestically disruptive during installation, this is one of the best VFM upgrades you can make.
