Guess the line being discontinued!

Posted by: timoth on 28 December 2017

Looks like whole line of Naim Streamers discontinued, dealer never offers these prices publicly.

We do have available:

Naim ND5XS-BT, reg. was 5295$, now for 3495$

Naim NDX-BT, reg. was 7595$, now for 5495$

Naim NDS, reg. was 14995$, now for 10995$

This would fit in nicely with timings if the NDX 2 and/or the ND-555 were to be launched at CES (Jan 2018) or the Bristol HiFi show in Feb....

Fun times for 2018!

Well I guess most don’t know what is going to happen, but I would not be surprised if the new tech and architectures used to great effect in the new Uniti series appear in the new Classic series streamers... from what I understand technically it’s quite a step forward... it could be a great case of trickle up....

I'm hoping for a streamer board upgrade for my ndx

Hmm, I doubt there will be one.. the architectural changes are more fundamental...

In real terms, those prices are still about 10% higher than the retail price in the UK.

Maybe Naim had got tired of a US distributor applying what they considered to be an excessive mark-up, and has appointed someone else?

The OP is in Winnipeg Canada

Nd5xs £2064.53 rather than £2430

NDS £6495.89

at today’s exchange rate.

Nice if you can claim the VAT back as a business expense!

Which you can do if you're exporting to Canada!

I'm with Simon on this one.  My hope mirrors his, "new tech and architectures used to great effect in the new Uniti series appear in the new Classic series streamers"

Don’t the Canadians have a sales tax? I know Naim have an arrangement to pack exports in a way that avoids shipping checks making the £40 difference just about covering the shipping. Still looks like good prices in Canada!

My dealer thinks it will be something 500 series based, perhaps something unexpected and unconventional?

I’ve heard a couple rumors that the current classic line is going to be redone - visually; and units like the NDS,NDX,ND5XS, 172, 272 will see the tech changes to go along with it.

Thats what II’ve heard.

In Seattle the pricing is listed on one site as:

ND5 XS $2,995.00

NDX $4,995.00

NDS $9,995.00

Sales ends on 12/31/2017

I'd really like to see Naim introduce a streamer head unit with the new tech. Along the lines of the Auralic Aries, with sufficient grunt to cope with whatever (reasonably) the future may hold.

Yes, but rates are different across the country e.g. 13% in Ontario. Unlike the uk, canadian prices typically exclude sales tax (vat.) Still, the offers are very tempting and not before time.

on the other hand Naim might ant to iron out the gremlins in the Uniti products before biting off more than they can chew! Mind you as and NDS wonder I quite like the idea of same case with new guts - dream on!

Not a surprise if accurate, but would a 500 series streamer be the best source for Statement?  And Naim should have a source to match the statement because I doubt a CD555 or hypothetical ND555 is it.  And I speak as a CD555 owner.   I would imagine that anyone lucky enough to afford Statement would look to dCS for the ultimate reference source.  There may be other options.

Given Naim have just got through a rather painful Uniti series launch not sure if they had the man power to focus on another range update - or maybe that was the issue with the Uniti just stretched too far on more than one mega project.

Is the problem being owned be beenies, but without them I doubt the R&D would have been possible.

Whatever happens guaranteed it is going to be Super Nova performance, can't wait.

If current streamers are not upgradable then I expect a mass exodus.

Good news for those who prefer the economy of buying the old model, as ever.

Not so good news for those who already 'bought the old model' though...

There isn't a streamer at 500 level, let alone Statement level. From a marketing POV this is a gap which needs filling. But first they have to actually produce something which comfortably performs above NDS level. I expect work is well in progress.

The "old" models, when they become legacy, will sound just as good as they ever did. Which is to say, very good indeed. It will take a lot to peel me off my NDS. As I discovered when looking to replace an 16 year old CD player in 2001, new isn't necessarily better. But if anyone can do it, Naim are worth betting on. I think 2018 will be interesting. Or 2019. Naim time is different from our Earth time.
