Island compilation. I wonder how much that would be in today's money taking into account inflation.
I'd forgotten all about that album, Tony. I remember buying one, too, from a local record store that was always burning joss-sticks so as to create an atmosphere. I can't remember the name of the store but I can remember the smell so I guess that trick worked. Goodness knows where that album is now.
Lowell George - Thanks I'll Eat it Here.
Another oldie from the vault .............. the heart and soul of the marvellous Little Feat ........... a sad loss to the world of music.
Who needs an excuse to play one of their albums?
From the hallowed halls of also-rans, here's Johann Peter Pixis (1788-1874). At least part of the reason for his obscurity must be the utterly forgettable and superficial nature of the music, at least on this showing. The Leonore Piano Trio's performance can't be faulted, as they try and latch on to any bubbly tune that has a chance of bubbling through the surface crud. This one goes straight to the archive.
Cheers,
EJ

Tony, I was another one who bought this back in the day. After your question I just had to find out what 14'6 would be in today's money and apparently it's £8.24 assuming this site is correct
My first listen to Neil Young's recent album release on 1½ x Reprise LPs [double vinyl with no music tracks on side 4 - just a etched picture of a feather, and the words: Neil Young + Promise Of The Real - The Visitor.] ...i always feel a bit cheated when i find a blanked out LP side : / why don't they do us a favour and fill it with more groovy music (?) however must admit knowing about this shortcoming before buying so can't really complain, been looking forward to it.
And the music is rather cool, only half way though the album as i write but i'm diggin it : )

Bargain indeed but bloody sad I felt compelled to check on the inflation adjusted cost!!
2017 - Heavy duty 200g (US) pressing of the 1969 concert.
(1972)
At the time they were more appreciated in the US of A than in blighty but they were a tremendous band to see live here.
A debut disc that remains a pleasure to listen to.
Cheers

A favourite of mine. The reproduction quality of this CD is right up their with the best I've heard. Just shows what can be done if someone makes the effort.

Some heavy metal, sludge and stoner rock from Brighton, yummy... The eponymous debut from these bad boys.

Yes, sir!
10 mins after Mr Amazon delivered the CD it is ripped and playing for the first time. The forthcoming release was promoted when I saw Midge back in November.
Gorecki conducting Gorecki III Symfonia.
This is a live concert conducted by Mr Gorecki himself. In fact, it is the only available performance I know of, which Gorecki conducts. It was recorded in the Holy Cross Church in Zakopane, Poland, in December 2003. Why? Well the second song of the symphony is based around words that were scratched on the basement wall of the Villa Palace in Zakopane, the Gestapo headquaters during the German occupation, hence the venue for the concert. They are a letter/words to the mother of an 18 year old girl who was imprisoned and tortured for helping the Polish resistance. Apparently they have now been removed/plastered over by the present owners of the Villa.
This is a hybrid SACD in 5.1. Both the CD stereo and the SACD 5.1 layers are excellent as are the performances. The soprano, Zofia Kilanowicz, is superb and being a live recording shows so much passion in her singing which is sometime lost in the studio IMHO. The orchestra delivers a very well controlled performance under the direction of Gorecki.
Sonically I have nothing to complain about. The double basses are magnificent at setting the ambience for the performance. Then the strings, piano and soprano. There is some very low bass from the orchestra that I have not experienced in other recordings.
The 3rd Symphony is one of my favourite peices. If you are a fan of Gorecki's 3rd Symphony you will love this.
An album I was alerted to by this thread. Way back I would never have believed that I could like this type of music but, as they say, you live and [hopefully] learn.
Don McLean - American Pie
A few classics on this one.
On CD:-
Rodney Crowell - Close Ties
Wolf Alice - Visions Of A Life
