Use of Maim iPad App with NAS

All

I have a Naim NAC-172 that I am using with a Qnap NAS drive which stores my music in AIFF format.

I use the Naim iPad app as the interface.

I am looking for some advice on setup and use of the iPad interface application.  I use a MacBook Pro with connected DVD to copy cds in AIFF format into iTunes and from the iTunes music folder I copy each album to the NAS drive.

The problem I seem to have is that whilst all of the music files appear to have copied across to the NAS (they are clearly there and can be seen using the Finder on the Mac to view the files on the NAS) they are not all seen when the NAS is accessed using the Naim app (i.e. there are tracks seemingly missing).

In addition to this the app is providing me with a very messy interface.  Rather than seeing album artwork presented in a clear easy to comprehend manner I am getting long simple lists ordered per song or per album etc.  Also an album is seemingly split into many individual list items (almost per track) as opposed to being a single item that can then be selected to then see the individual tracks.

There is no album artwork being displayed and the lack of adequate ‘grouping’ of tracks etc. means it is almost impossible to find anything.

I am sure that I am making a school person (must be PC) error somewhere and would be most grateful for any advice.

Regards and thanks in advance.

I use a different process. Using my MAC Desktop computer with attached Apple SuperDrive, I ripped the CD directly to the NAS using dBpoweramp CD Ripper software storing as a WAV format. If I check to see if the artist name, album name, music type, track information is correct before ripping the CD then everything appears correctly using the Naim App. There are some album covers which are not available but that does not occur to often.  I do not use iTunes at all in moving files to the NAS server.

I’d suggest that you install Asset on the Qnap. Have a look on the Dbpoweramp website to see if Asset works with AIFF - I don’t know because I only use flac, and use dbpoweramp for ripping. You can set Asset to transcode to WAV, which will sound better.

Or enable MinimServer, which, supports AIFF.  At least according to the user guide.  And it's free, so no loss if you move on.  It certainly works well on my QNAP and is very flexible albeit with something of a learning curve initially.

What UPnP server are you runnin on the nas?  I highly recommend installing and running Asset. No. 2 choice would be MinimServer.
