Naim Powerline + Grahams Hydra

Posted by: endlessnessism on 08 January 2018

I have an all-Naim system. I have a Grahams Hydra with five outputs and I also have one Naim Powerline. I am currently using the Powerline on my DAC and I have one spare output on the Hydra. Would it be possible to connect the Powerline to the Hydra (I would take it back to Grahams for this), and would there be any benefit in doing it?

You could fit an in-line socket to the hydra and then plug the Powerline into that.

There is no provision for connecting the two together

I very much doubt either Graham's or naim would sanction it !!

I also double there would be any benefits what so ever in trying this

If you really want to mess up an expensive naim cable and an expensive hydra ...send it to custom hifi cables and as him to do it for you ...he will make the best job of making it work anyone can..

I know of at least two people using a powerline into a wireworld mains distribution bar. Both pleased with the results.

In a similar manner I would imagine that fitting (or having a competent electrician fit) an in-line IEC socket to the hydra and plugging the unadulterated powerline into that would be an improvement over using the hydra alone. Of course the only way to know for sure is to try it. If you do please post your results as I have a hydra into a single unswitched socket on a radial and it's something I've contemplated.

If it doesn't work out simply replace the 13amp plug on the hydra. No damage done.

Regards,

Willy.

I switched from a Grahams Hydra to a Wireworld Matrix II power block plugged into the wall by a Powerline and this was superior in SQ terms to the Hydra by some way.

As the OP already has a Powerline and the Matrix II is only £125 it won't cost much to try it out.

Interesting, must put that down on my list of tweaks, as I have the wire world matrix 2 power block, but with their cheaper power cable.
