Kudos 707
Posted by: BPW on 13 January 2018
Now that the Titan 707’s have been out for awhile i would be interested in how the owners are liking them. I have heard the Titan 88’s many times and like them. Wondering how The 707’s compare. I am currently running Ovator S600’s in a NDS/552DR/500DR system with Chord Music cables.
Not sure if anyone on the Forum has actually purchased the 707 yet or home demo’d. But understand from various demos that the impressions are generally favourable. As to comparison with the 600s ??
Intersting point.
A few days ago i auditioned T808 at the new Italian distributor (ex Naim)
In the context of a totally different not Naim system (Klimo power amp, AVM source) and of much lower level of my 500 one i was a bit confused.
Regards
Roberto
If I am not mistaken, BPPhotographer has the 707s in his 500 system.
JN was an early adopter of the Titan T88 speaker for his Naim 500 series system and really liked them...
... until he tried the Titan 707 in his system.
He is now a very happy owner of Kudos Titan 707 speakers on the end of his 500 series system.
This may answer your question
Best regards, FT
I love the 707s but I think the 606s have gone and stolen my heart
Have you heard them yet, Chris?
Not really an answer but I use the same electronics and cables with 808. Sounds fantastic!
Chord Music and Titans really loves each other!
Hi Jonas,
Yep, there are some similarities - even down to the Sonority shelves. I couldn’t fit the 808s in my listening room and I’m not yet sure if the 707s will fit either. I was planning to arrange a trip to Leicester to do a comparison between 707s and 606s, either way it’ll be with a Music loom.
As an aside, have you listened to a Katalyst KDS? I think you’d find it interesting.

Yes. I heard the production version last week at Cymbiosis. We were listening to Titan 808s on a 552/500 system and Peter brought in the 606s to replace the 808s.
I was told later that I was like a child in a sweetshop - which sounds about right.
Not so sure that the 707 is a hands-down improvement over the T-88. The T-88's separate bass enclosure brings a lot to the party... The room will probably be the main variable between the two I would think. Have not heard the 707 so I may be totally wrong Would be nice to hear some more direct comparisons though ...

Mark

Hey, don’t stop there! What did you think of them? Do they share any of the same character?
And how do they compare to your S20s?
I have also heard the Titan range at Cymbiosis 808 707 606, personally the T808 at the best speaker I have ever had the pleasure of listening too, Peter had a demo day last year with DS Linn Climax amps and T808 - the musical stage from the T808 was outstanding
they also had the T707 on Demo which were also supberb, i have to say I dont like the look of them as much as the T808 T606
went in a few weeks ago and the new T606 were on demo, slightly smaller than the T707 but another wow moment - they were warming up but boy, mentioned this to Chris when he was there with Ray on Ray's LP12 mission last week
if budget and space no issue T808 with out question, but I would put the T707 and T606 against each other, I do prefer the T606 on demo
as my music room is small, I am hoping the smaller 505 when realeased are on par which I am sure they will be,
I am taking my 300 back at the end of the month to be sent of for DR & Service, I am hoping the 606 are still playing for another chance to listen
Sorry for diverting the thread but are the 606s as room friendly as the S20s? I shouldn’t really be asking
Hi Lindsay,
On the basis of never having heard them, absolutely yes. You really ought to audition and then buy a pair straight away. Best regards, temptation.

Well I have since suggested to my wife that she does not really need to replace her car this year as we were intending. The immediate response was "You bought something last week in Leicester didn't you?" I assured her that I had not
I have clearance on either 707s or 606s, just need to compare them both - the 707s were superb when I heard them but the 606s would, physically, fit the footprint left by the S20s so I’m interested in your views.

I was there the week after and agree. it was - I think I posted at the time - possibly the best modern-era system I’ve heard. I’ve heard though that the SO algorithm was flawed at the time so it should now sound even better!
Just trying to arrange a demo myself - you’ll love the DR upgrade btw.
I changed my 88's for 707's almost exactly six months ago. Mark has a point in that the 88's probably have more sheer muscle and bass power, but that proved to be a negative (or a positive for the 707's) in my room - in that the 88's could get a bit fruity.
The main improvement with the 707 for me is an obviously better quality tweeter which sounds smoother and sweeter and integrates more seamlessly into the mid-band. Bass is better controlled on the 707's in my room and the mid-band sounds more sophisticated, whilst lacking none of the characteristic Kudos lucidity and transparency.
The nice thing is that the new Kudos family (606, 707 and 808) all share the same sonic signature, so it's a case of matching to pocket and room. Isobaric (without a 'k'!) bass loading allows all three models to deliver beautifully clean and extended bass when sited relatively close to a room boundary.
John.

Lindsay, I can only answer this from a physical size point of view. I saw the 707, 606 and S20 next to each other at the Audiobarn demo day and the 606 is only slightly larger than the S20. I suspect that the 606 does not need much (any?) more space around them compared to the S20 due to the Isobaric loading.
I only heard the 707 that day as a faulty Burndy on the Supercap powering the cross-over blew the 606s tweeters. Bu**er. But the 707 sounded wonderful passive and active at the Audiobarn as they did at the Signals Audio East Show a few weeks ago.

Its on my To-Do-list, hopefully this or next week. I guess you have tried it? I use 2 555 PS (with Sarum PL, on Sonority shelves).
Who will win?
It’s what I use, with Music i/c and Sarum Super PL. The latest Katalyst version gives the impression that it’s designers were already familiar with Music.
Right, so my demo is arranged for Friday. Demo of a Tranquility too, should be fun.
Dave- you should love the Tranquility, a no brainer imo. Have a good time

Mark
Thanks Mark, those whose opinions I trust have all said pretty much the same. I’m taking my LP12 with me, “just in case”, but of course I’m following my own best advice and hearing if/how it works for me. Strongly suspect the turntable’s trip to see Peter won’t just be a social call...
