NAC 112 with Flatcap 2x

Posted by: José Cano Fernández on 14 January 2018

Hi. My team is formed by a CDX + NAC 112 + NAP 200, Naim wiring and Sitirling ls3 / 5a speakers. I want to go up a bit of level without getting rid of any component. Do you think the Flatcap 2 or 2X will be a significant improvement?

Thank you very much.

Hi Jose Cano,

Adding a Flatcap will definitely bring a lot more: punch, level of detail and especially authority of your system will improve a lot.

one consideration: instead of buying a flatcap, you could also consider to sell the 112 and look for a 2nd hand NAC 202.

Thanks but the 112 is in perfect condition, and such a basic model is difficult to sell, at least here in Spain

FC2X is useful.  Having moved on from the 112, it still performs service for my Headline.

Hi José, I agree with Iver's second consideration and understand your response to it.

My experience of NaimWorld is that it is not the power supplies you have that matter but what you put them on. For this reason I would sell the NAC112 (and yes, take a hit) and then find yourself the best NAC202 you can. You will then have yourself a very nice set for your LS3/5as.

Tricky to know what to do, from my experience. My 112/FC2x/155 absolutely hooked me.  So good!

Pause.

202/NAPSC/FC2X/155 was so much better, I returned the 202 in a day, and waited patiently for a used 552 to come along.  No regrets, waiting or attaining.  Naim deliver at every level.

Not faint praise for the 112, at all.

Find your ultimate destination, go there, lock in, ignore temptation from the Forum, and live happily.

I can not buy a superior preamp model now. I only have a little money and I wanted to know if it's worth a Flatcap

Get the FC2X!  But, keep in mind, if it has never been serviced, it may need it.  Factor that into the price you pay.

I would get a dedicated psu, either a version of FC or HC.

It can be used instant if followed by a Snaic 5 cable, the day you get a better pre its ready too.

It should provide an improvement but a home dem in advance recommended if possible, you have a pretty good source there, try for example the psu a few weeks, then disconnect it and conclude.

I know your dilemma, the 112 is not a speedy seller, took me years to get mine replaced with a 152 which is lovely powered by matching FC, perhaps a bit forced powered from a HC, sometime tricky with these psu, I am not really a fan of a naked 202, too expensive IMO for what you get but plenty available s/h. It really needs a HC and Napsc.

If Naim bring out new amplifiers this year even more available s/h, the older 102 is allready very affordable s/h and will match the look of first generation CDX

Nice LS3/5a
