SN2 & HC DR where next - 282 OR SC DR

What’s your source?

Source is NDAC > XPS DR > NDX with Sarum SA/T chord cables fed via melco Nas 

Of the 2 options, a 282.

Or, trade in the NDX, NDAC and SN2 for 272/your XPS/250DR? 

Just a thought.

I would go for the 282 or sell NDX and NDAC and get NDS.

Hmm tempting to try but I think mind set on the separates route for flexibility unless they unleash an updated streamer/preamp that could beat an nds........  At which point my wallet would cry and wife would kill me

Hi Mat,

Add the 282 with the view of adding a 250dr, it’s an exceptionally good combination and will work extremely well with your source and you will have a well balanced system.

If you happen to go with the NAC 282, its potential can only be unleashed when the dual outputs are connected either with a Supercap or dual Hicaps. A single Hicap will work well and there are reports that dual Hicaps don't sound as good as one on the NAC 282 but my experience suggests otherwise.

I guess the best upgrade path depends on the "endgame" you have in mind. To minimise the overall costs, try to keep the number of "steps" as low as possible...

282/ SN should sound well ahead of SC2 on a Supernait, unless 252 is your endgame then the latter is a more cost effective step. The Supernait power amp sounds just fine until you get a 250, I've used it in this way.

I would make your dealer earn his money, by first letting you do lots of listening to the options you are considering. If you think your endgame might be a 252, it makes sense to get the Supercap now, even though it might seem like overkill on a Supernait, then leapfrog directly to a 252. BUT that seems to be a bit of a Marmite preamp, and if you don't like it, maybe get the 282 first.

Get your dealer to put on the coffee and go compare the 282 with 252 into 250 DR and your speakers or similar. That should give you enough to go on. Once you have decided which pre-amp you prefer you could also compare that into a 300 DR.

If the SC DR is such a good offer, I would take that first and play the long game.

I'd get a 282 - there's simply no way a Supernait 2 pre can outperform the 282 preamp. Supercap or not.

I did the test, it was a very decisive result in favour of 282.

The 282 is such a fine preamp, the only place for me after 282 is a 552.

Audition to find your end game is also my advice, but also audition 282 w. SC. In the end both the 252 and 282 option might inclued a SC... and if at a good deal...

282 ,supercap ,250 dr if you can afford it than 252 I have not heard the 252 but some people think the 282 is better.....with supercap DR

Very good advice both are  rather excellent pre amps it's a matter of personal choice.I used a 250dr in my set up for over a year changing to a 300dr last year this was a massive step up over the 250dr.

Goo decision - well I would say that, wouldn't I?! Give it plenty of space and it will be happy - maybe even top shelf of your rack.

quick question in terms of rack order should i have the NDAC on my top shelf OR the 282 ???

currently have it NDAC>NDX>HiCAP>SN2>XPSDR>Melco

I found 282 on top sounded best, with NDX below, but that’s without an NDAC.
