282 - remembering its previous state after power down

Posted by: engjoo on 17 January 2018

I have had a 282 for several months.

It is usually left powered on but when I am out of country or would not be listening for more than 1 day, I would power it off - includinig NAPSC.

The 282 is used with "Display = off" and when should it get powered off and on again, it remembers this but I have noticed that I have noticed for longer period of being switched off, it does not seems to remember that. Is there a specification on this ? How long should the 282 keep its settings when powered off.

I don't know what the specification for this is but my 282 does exactly the same so I wouldn't worry too much.

I am surprised that you power down for just one missed day of listening. This is in part for SQ reasons, but perhaps more importantly to avoid stressing components with multiple power ups. I have no evidence to support this but my system is switched off only once or twice a year for extended holidays for example. Just in case...

I know it is a bit of a sin here to mention that I power down my naim.. :-)  ok. May be not for a day but for 2 days.... oh well..

Any power re-set (switching NAPS and HiCAP etc) off will always re-set 'lights on' with 282. By default it will come back to 'lights always on'

Actually not.

It will still remember its "old state" if you power it up again within 1+ day.

Very odd - all of my amps (SN2, 252, 282) re-set to a factory 'lights on' as soon as I power them down.... All must be faulty then...

Interesting thread.  I have to admit, I've never noticed this.  Possibly because a) I tend to keep the buttons illuminated - with so many different sources, it's nice to see at a glance what's selected - and because I'm not totally convinced I can accurately discern when illumination is on or off from a performance point of view; and b) because I hardly ever switch off the pre-amp.  Even when I'm away for a few days I switch off the power amp but leave sources and the pre-amp powered up.  The power amp is quickest to warm up and come on song, and switching it off means that should the worst happen and some horrid thump or crack be sent through the system then at least the speakers will be spared.

I only switch off the system completely if I'm away for more than a few days, and even then, reluctantly...
