Naim + Stirling ls3/5a

Posted by: José Cano Fernández on 17 January 2018

Hello everyone.
I have been enjoying Stirling MS-88 for a few months with a team formed by Naim CDX - Nac112 - Flatcap2 -Nap200.
Do any of you have a similar set that can give me your opinion?
I am very happy with this configuration.

I'm not familiar with the Stirling MS-88 but I used to have an early pair of "gold label" Rogers LS3/5as that I would run from time to time on the end of my big Naim system.  They were very good tonally and spatially, albeit they weren't a speaker to rock out to, or for playing loud.  However, in most every respect, I found my SL2s to be as good, if not better (in some case much better) than the Rogers, so when somebody in HK made me an offer I just couldn't refuse, I let them go.  I did think about then buying a newer pair (from what I got for the old ones I could have bought quite a few new pairs!) but never did.

I note in the most recent HFNRR, Ken Kessler extolling the virtues of running stacked LS3/5as as per Tim De Paravicini's show system setup.  That might be rather interesting...

The MS-88 speakers are identical to the Rogers ls3 / 5a 60th annyversary. Stirling Broadcast when he built them could not call them LS3 / 5a because they had a different Monacor mid-woofer than the originals.

My one-time Stirling LS3/5as were soemwhat underwhelming with a Nait 5. I always suspected a pre-power was the way to go, so I would say you are on the right track with your set. I loved my 3/5as with my Rogers E20a amp and a Pink Triangle record player.

Enjoy yours.

Where would the forum be without a cult product?  [rhetorical ].

Are you referring to the NAIT5 there Chris...?

Haha! I can see why you might, rightly, think such a thing but in this case, no.

Puzzled here. I've just googled Stirling MS-88. They are 50cm tall and have a front port.

These do not have the back panel screwed in like the Stirling ls3 / 5a V2 and the woofer is a Monacor model. The grills are of tygan, not cotton like the others and the crossover was modified to sound like the original Rogers 15 ohm.
