Unity Core and Naim DAC

Posted by: Winson on 19 January 2018

I have quite a collection of CDs. I m thinking of getting a Uniti Core. May I ask aft I rip the CD and hook it up to my nDAC, I can listen to my music inside the core via control from my iPad using naim apps? Is it a must to connect to the LAN to work w iPad wirelessly? I’m confused as I’m not sure if the Core got wireless function.

Thanks.

The Core is meant to be a UPnP server which means it serves network players like NDX or NDS through ethernet or WiFi.

It also has digital output (isolated S/PDIF) that might be connected to the S/PDIF input on your nDAC (using the DC1 cable or equivalent).

You control the Core using the Naim App through WiFi.

Yes, you can connect the Core directly to the nDac. With the Core also connected to your network (wired or wirelessly) you can control the Core through your iPad

So does that mean even without connecting a lan cable to the core, i can control via ipad witelessly? Does that mean core inside got wifi antenna?

The Core has no WiFi. You would need an Ethernet cable to connect it to your network for the control app, and for metadata retrieval while ripping. If you don’t want to instal a long cable run from your router, you could wire it to an AirPort Express or similar instead.

Sorry, I was mistaken. The Core needs to be wired (ethernet cable) to the network as correctly stated by Chrissu. It can then be controlled through the iPad which connects to your network wirelessly
