UnitiQute 2 and television

Not sure if this is really a streaming audio question but since the most of the qute topics seem to be here, I wrote it here. I'm planning on getting a secondhand UnitiQute 2 from my dealer, to be used with my tv. I've never had a Naim before but i read that there is no standby with Naim so does this mean that if I turn the Unit on and leave it on the tv input, it will play audio as I turn on the tv? Or do I need to do something with the remote. Probably a stupid question, but just want to make sure. I would like the system to be as easy to use as possible.

You can mute the UQ2, which is what I do when not using it, but yes, if you leave it on and on the TV input then it will play as soon as the Tv outputs audio.

Thanks for the information. Is there a noticeable hum if not muted? Or why you mute the unit when not used?

If you leave it on and leave it on the TV input it'll play whatever the TV puts out via it's appropriate output (analogue or TOSLink)  When the TV is in standby nothing will come from the UQ2, when the TV starts outputting a signal sound will come from the speakers.

Simples.

(BTW I recommend using the optical - i.e. TOSLink - connection from the TV to the UQ2 if you can).

Thanks. Yes I was planning on using TOSLink.

I connect the TV by Toslink. No hum, just habit and also because it’s often left on Radio.

I have a PVR and a DVD connected to my 272 via 10m Toslink fibres.  I can't take the feed directly from my (Toshiba!) TV as its Toslink output isn't sufficiently stable, so I just take it from the video source components instead.

It sounds to me as though the SQ from Freeview HD is better than from Freeview SD, but I may be deceiving myself.  In any case the resulting sound when sent through a proper HiFi system is actually quite impressive and quite exceptional when used with DVDs - well worth doing.
