How to duplicate Core files for use with remote site Atom?

I want to duplicate the full contents of my Core library onto an external drive that I can play on an Atom at another location. I tried connecting the Core backup drive to the Atom but no luck - both server and USB inputs failed to see music files.

Next option is to copy files/folders over the network to an external drive. Will that retain metadata, album covers, etc?

Copying files over the network will indeed retain metadata etc.

I do something similar with my HDX music files, to enable me to play my entire library on my Superuniti in a second home.

I do this using a NAS drive with server software installed, so once connected to the same network as my Superuniti, it plays beautifully.

If I transfer CD rips to a USB stick and connect it to my Atom, it sees them and plays them just the same as it does the originals over UPnP.
