Power Amp for New Atom

Posted by: David Weller on 25 January 2018

I am thinking of adding a power amp to new Atom at some point in near future

I see there is the NAP100 which is same style and size of Unitiqute, will it be replaced with a similar unit to match the new styling and size of the Atom ?

I don't think anyone knows if the new Uniti series styling will be inherited by the classic Naim kit.

I've added a 20 year old NAP250 to a Nova and it's definitely an improvement, but in reality these devices are all-in-ones, and part of me wishes me had the new Uniti styling without a power amp at all.

Ultimately power amp styling may be important to you, so if the Atom doesn't quite do it for you you might want to audition a Nova instead and trade-in the Atom.  Personally not at all bothered about matching old/new designs but others may be.

Naim never release new product information until they are ready for a press release to announce the launch - so you'll just have to wait and see!

I was thinking the same thing - either upgrading to a Nova now I have Spendor D7s or adding a NAP.  Can anyone explain briefly the 200 / 250 / 250DR and their suitability / differences?

Took delivery of my Atom today and have it connected to a Nait XS2 , sounding very good so far !

You could hide any power amp away if you don't like the mix of styles.  When I added a Nap 150 to my UQ2 the styles did match but I have had a CB Hicap on my rack and briefly an Olive Nat 01 and it's psu and think the mix of styles looked really great especially the CB.

How would an Atom connect to a NAP250? It appears to only have RCA line out - the NAP had some kind of weird connector?

That's the difference with the Nova - it has a proper DIN output connector to hook up the NAP 250.  The Atom has RCA out - you'd need an adapter or RCA terminated cable.

It's an XLR socket on the 250. I don't think Naim make an RCA to XLR version of this cable.

Try your dealer or a company such as Flashback cables who will be able to make you up the correct cable to connect the Atom to a 250.
