Uniti Core - Not ripping

Posted by: BPhotographer on 27 January 2018

Hi,
I suddenly encountered that my UnitiCore isn't able to rip CDs anymore.
I put a CD, monitor it via app, it finishes (100% - Successfully), and it's not there!
I go to "New CDs" and it's not there.
I must say that my router is not connected to the Internet at the moment (I'm not expecting for a metadata, but it should appear with something like date as a CD name, as it did before).
Tried to power off & on many times, latest firmware version, and reset UnitiCore - nothing helped.
What could it be?

My best guess is if it coincided with not being connected to the ethernet, then the Core has to have the connection.?

Even though your router isn't connected to the internet, did you try restarting your router? If not then I suggest you do that and then restart your Core again.

Maybe the way the Core behaves when there is no internet connection has changed with the most recent firmware. Can you take your Core to someone who has internet, plug your Core into their router, start it up and give it some minutes to look up the discs it ripped in case they are queued in a holding store...

Hi,
I connected my UnitiCore to the internet and in the monitor area I see all rips are OK but no covers are seen in the Naim app.
I deleted empty folders from MQ folder and now I can see the covers.
I deleted the internal HD and now it rips successfully, but why after a few new folders (in the Downloads folder) I can't rip anymore?

Also "Reset music database" is not working, I have to restart the UnitiCore in order to re-scan the music folders for new albums,
or waiting for X unknown time for a scheduled re-scan.

You shouldn't be touching anything in any folder except downloads and that may be your problem.

I suggest you start again. you have to define one Music Store. A Music Store is where your Core saves rips. That would normally be your internal hard disc. You set the Music Store in the app and when it asks you whether it can format it you say yes. It will set up Music and Dienloads folders. If you then do a CD rip, this will be saved to the MQ sub folder in the Music folder of your Music Store. You mustn't use your PC to alter the ripped files in any way. That has to be done via the app. If you have downloads then you can put those into the downloads folder but not the MQ folder. You can edit things in the downloads folder with your PC but not via the app.

i hope this helps.

Thanks David.
This is what I did. I deleted the old Music Store and defined the internal HD as a Music Store again.
I ripped 5 CDs, it was OK, I copied music to the Downloads folder, it was OK, then I ripped another 10 CDs and those 10 CDs weren't visible in the app.
Then I discovered that those 10 CDs were empty folders. I deleted those folders and deleted my downloads from the Downloads folder, and the old
5 CDs showed up.

It's not supposed to work that way at all! I wonder whether it might be worth resetting your Core to factory settings. You do that by powering it right off (unplug the power or switch of at the wall). Then hold down the standby button and switch the power at the wall on again. Keep pressing the standby button until the light under the front panel USB flashes then you can let go the standby button and let it start up normally.

I think you have to tell it where the music store is again.

But if this doesn't work then I suggest you will have to call Naim support for further help.

I talked to my dealer and he said it might be a faulty core.
He will contact naim for me.

Thanks for your effort and time.
