New BBC Weather Service

Mike, i would be impressed if they could also improve the weather. I don’t see the point of it. Anyone can forecast the weather in the UK: it is usually S***T!

   oooh I wouldn't say that Tony,  dire, dank & dreich is much more appropriate in polite company.   

   I lived for a while not so far away on the west coast of Ireland, the local weather was very easy,  four seasons in one day.   If you don't like the weather now, come back in an hour.  

My apologies, old chap. Let us rephrase that and just say it is rather faecal!

When I lived in the U.S 20 years ago the weather channel had Doppler radar, you pretty much could see what was coming your way. Over here, might as well just look out of the window....

They were supposed to take over the BBC weather contract last spring, but have been having tech issues. The change-over looks like it must be getting close, as the BBC now has two weather websites running in tandem. I was aware of this change and it seems a bit sad to me, but they are now obliged to push for value for money.

The biggest cock-up was loss of the BBC Travel pages which were invaluable and in my experience have no equivalent replacement service where I can quickly check about my daily commute before leaving - perhaps I'm missing something.

The whole gender pay gap thing is a mess too - so a female news editor resigns on principle and the effect is that men agree to drop their salaries rather than the beeb offering the women equivalent ones - talk about being shot in the foot.

Would agree Don, but until we see what it's like difficult to judge I suppose but I'm not optimistic.

The whole having to sign in for iPlayer annoys me now, as did TV Licensing being very aggressive when I moved out to get some work done at home and was living elsewhere with repeated threats of 'inspection visits' and fines despite informing them my house was vacant.

I always used to respect the BBC but it has increasingly become very-left wing and seems to disproportionately promote minority issues - these are naturally important to those groups but there seems to be heavy bias to me which skews news and article presentation.

Apple have  just released an update to change  the old Met service to the new Meteogroup service on AppStore

Apple have released the BBC Weather app for the new Meteogroup service.  Its an update to the previous Apple BBC Met Office Weather app - assuming you had that loaded. If so its in your iOS Apple AppStore updates screen, & depending on how you have it set its an auto update or is waiting for you to touch 'Update'.

On the Met Office site you can get rainfall radar which is updated every 5 minutes - running a sequence of the past hour or so gives a very good indication of what is coming your way.

I don't have any experience of Meteo but I certainly do find that intelligent analysis and interpretation of the data on the "proper " Met Office site often gives a different (and more accurate!) forecast than the BBC interpretation. I'll be sticking with that.

I use Met Office doppler radar when required,  very useful for squally showers conditions & storm tracking,   a bit less useful for day to day conditions.  Met Off doppler will still be available irrespective of what company's data the BBC use to prepare forecasts.      

What do I have now ???   Met Office tell me my local temp is -1'c & a mix of light cloud/sun,  BBC (Meteogroup) show +1'c &  light cloud/sun.      My outside weather station shows +1'c  .....  & Mk-II eyeballs say its slightly hazy but all blue sky.     Oh well at least its dry 

I don’t like it. Forecast said sunny on Saturday. Updated the app and now it’s raining.

The BBC TV weather graphics have changed today,  they're a nice improvement IMO,  but sorry to say the weather has not improved as a result.
