New Urika and new Lingo at the dark site ;-) Sounds cool...it's on their web already!
,,,if you go the spdif optical way rather than Exact- what is the max rate that can be archived here? 192/24?
Whilst I am not a Urika fan nor Ekat user I applaud Linn for moving the boundaries forward (hopefully) and will be in the queue for a dem especially to compare against Linn’s ‘best’ digital front end.

If you do that, then it would be interesting to also include their best all-analog front end
I'm waiting for their new 12" CDs to become available to play on the new digital lp12 before I decide....

I am glad it is not just me.....
Surely it has to be converted back to analogue for listening ?
Once the signal’s been through a chord DAC for soportapic realtime digital reconstitutionisation, it'll be closer to the original master tape than any piece of vinyl could ever be.
I assume reconstructionisation is massively superior to plain reconstruction..

Or I just get a Superline next...
I am not interested in the U2. Might be tempted to change my Sarum Super ARAY on the Urika for a Music with the “spare” money though.

Just wondering what the tracking weight of the Laser will be ??

You could be right Franz.
Just when I thought the last bastion of analogue replay couldn't be messed with .................

If Linn's pricing policy is anything to go by it will be "excessive" ...
Amusing to see an LP12 with an Ethernet cable but it makes sense in the Linn Exakt ecosystem.
I predict the next upgrade will have a USB socket (incorporated into a fluted plinth) for instant vinyl archiving

Eksessive please

Of course!
How silly of me..????????

It’s not an Ethernet cable, it’s a Cat 5/6 cable used in Linn’s (digital) Exakt link.

It is exactly the same and interchangeable with an "Ethernet" cable. I am not sure what signaling Linn is using on Layer 2, I would not be shocked if it was some derivative of Ethernet since the silicon for that is readily available.

I may be mistaken, but I thought Exakt link used Cat5 cabling to run a derivative of SPDIF with clock signalling.
You are correct it’s the same cable as used for Ethernet, but (afaik) Exakt link has no more to do with Ethernet as Ethernet does with RS232 carried over Cat5 cabling. Or for that matter as SPDIF via BNC has to do with Ethernet 10BaseT (both use coax though 10BaseT uses 50ohm connectors and cabling vs 75ohm for SPDIF)

Interesting. Can't say i've looked at the Exakt system in any detail but i'll go and take a look.
LP12 with Digital phono stage?
Blimey
This cans the whole point of the joy of vinyl ..... just stay fully digital and stream if you are happy with the digital domain.... this introduces allot of other issues...for vinyl users....this is a dead end....development
but Linn knows this - and feel that converting analog to digital at 192/24 seems to lose no SQ.
Apparently Naim think so too, as the analog inputs to the Nova are doing the same thing.
I would be keen to listen to the results ....

Without hearing? So analog is best is just dogma?
It makes sense for Linns Exact technology and room tayloring gear. It will certainly be interesting to listen in that context.
My personal dogma suggests that the less you do to the signal path the better the sound tends to be. Adding a digital graphic equaliser to the delicate mc signal intuitively seems wrong to me. But Linn know what they are doing and it does fit their range philosophy. I wonder if it will sell?
Stu
I understand and in general agree with the purist approach, and my own view was that as music is analog, chopping it up into quantised steps inherently is just wrong. However my ears made me decide that when done well the process is not the evil it appears to be. (And indeed irs removal of some of the inherent defects of the vinyl replay chain can be beneficial.)
Maybe one thing that didn’t help was the poor conversion process in the early days of digital fixing the idea of ‘digital sound’ in people’s heads.
Hi Stu,
Bassed on what I have heard of an LP12 through an existing Exackt system where analogue is converted to digital I would expect that if there is significant improvement with the new Urika II it will sell. Both to existing LP12 Exackt users and also new users seeking a top range record player in a system with a minimal number of boxes designed to fit in the living space combined with sound optimisation to fit your room etc.
Whilst presently it is not for me I think it is not only a winner but also increasingly the way forward!
Richard
You could be right Richard!
