Youtube -> UnitiQute?

Hi!

I am planning to give a good friend of mine a system as a present. I managed to source the following s/h gear: UnitiQute (a 96kHz version 1 with RS323 connector and no BT), Harbeth P3ESR and Linn LK20, all in nice condition. He needs to listen to many recordings via youtube and uses his Apple laptop for that.

What else is needed to feed youtube from the laptop into the UnitiQute? I know that many Apples have an SPDIF digital out, so I will try to find out if his is also equipped with TOSLINK. But I doubt this is the best way... I would prefer to connect the UnitiQute via the front USB and use it as an external sound card, is that possible on the Apple? Or can I even connect them through WiFi?

Please give me some advice, I don't have an Apple...

BTW he is making the most wonderful violins, and I play them in my daily life as an Orchestra musician. I decided he needs a decent system. I myself am fine: I used to have a CDS3/552/500/NBL system (before that even active 135s into the NBLs) and am totally happy since my last downgrade to CDS3/Supernait1/Harbeth30.1, maybe I will consider a HiCap one day in the future...

Thanks in advance!

You can send audio from a Mac via optical cable, you may need to change a few settings to get it working properly, but that is straightforward.

You could also buy an Apple Airport Express, and connect it that to the Unitiqute with an optical cable. This allows the computer to use Apple Airplay to send audio over WiFi.

Actually running a Mac via an optical output and into a streamers input is a very good way to go.

I run my MacBook into NDS that way and it sounds pretty much the same as from a USB plugged into the NDS.
