Media server 'looks' in Naim app

I downloaded Asset on a Mac Mini as Twonky on my WD NAS was not playing certain hi-res downloads from Qobuz - tracks listed but lengths of 0'0'' if you tried to play. Same with Asset so something up with the AIFF download.
Anyhow simple enough to configure Asset to use files already on the NAS (realised this is not a good idea on wi-fi as Asset seems to pull the files from the NAS then feeds the Nova (dropouts when microwave in use) - Nova and NAS are on ethernet.
Must confess when I went to browse Asset on the Naim app on iPhone I was rather taken aback by the large alphanumeric icons which to me seemed a but Fisher Price. I assume Asset is providing icons for the various options - so can it be 'skinned' for something more elegant. Also found some options a bit frustrating such as dynamic browsing.
BTW yet to try Minim server as I don't want Java on my Mac Mini - don't ask - but will try it at some stage on a raspberry Pi.
Will the music files play on the Mac, using iTunes or another player? Just to see if the data is intact.

Maybe worth running the files which don’t work through XLD ... just convert to FLAC or even “convert” to AIFF.

Yes they do - I initially thought as the filenames were very long that the overall pathname might be too long but don't think it was that now.
I redownloaded as ALAC and they work. I know WAV is supposedly the preferred format fro the Naim streamers but may just end up using what works.

Good idea - I've been running some CDs I ripped with dBpoweramp to WAV through XLD and saving as AIFF as the WAV files didn't work perfectly, but the artwork and other metadata seems intact in the converted AIFFs.

If you have a Windows PC you can find the images used by Asset in the Programs (x86)/Illustrate/dbpoweramp/AssetImages folder.
I recall that there was a thread about the icons here:
https://forums.naimaudio.com/topic/asset-server-r5
It deals mainly with customising the icons for use with NAS drives but may give you some ideas.
Many thanks - I was quite taken aback by the rather dated appearance of the 'font' (I assume these are icons served to the app).
I have a Mac so may do some digging around.

I think I've sussed it - although the files downloaded from Qobuz are AIFF they are actually AIFF-C which are compressed so perhaps the Nova can't handle those in which case Eloise's suggestion may work.

They are AIFF-C downloads and I suspect the compressed format does not play on the Nova but does on the Mac - unfortunately XLD does not decompress and outputs a duplicate, so should use a different format type.

I’m not completely familiar with Asset UPnP... but can’t you tell it to convert everything lossless (FLAC and ALAC and AIFF) to WAV? That’s what I do with MinimServer for my Naim streamers - gives best of both worlds (IMO) with better metadata support and MacOS support as well as best sound for Naim.

I'm not sure Eloise - I've only very briefly played with it in the last day or so.
I may need to dig into AIFF-C further - it may be natively supported on Mac but possibly not by the Atom/Star/Nova - if Asset can transcode from AIFF-C to uncompressed AIFF or WAV/ALAC/FLAC then that's another option.

If you open Asset Configuration and click on "Edit Advanced Settings" this will open a new screen. Towards the bottom of the settings screen you will see a box headed "Audio Format Streaming" with a list of the formats which will have a default stream format of "as is". If you click on the "as is" against AIFC or any other audio format you will be able to alter this to stream WAV.

Many thanks - will give that a shot.
