fact 8

anybody using pmc fact 8, and what do you think of them and what system will suit.
I would have thought a 272/250 would be the minimum, a 300 dr would be even better.
A friend of mine has them bi-amped using four 135's via a CDS3. They are extremely good and have many of the qualities that you'd normally associate with a Naim speaker. Lots of PRAT with a lovely rich, silky and exspresive sound. Vocals sound very emotional. He's using them on Townsend bars, which also look and sound very nice.
They are quite demanding of source and system, so unless they are the best I might consider looking lower down the range?
Yes I will be using with nac 282 250 dr supercap Dr cdx2 xps dr.i just can not demo a set I my system.
Using mine on end of nap 200/272/555. I’m sure a 250 or 300 may be even better, but certainly as it is no slouch at the moment. As always, speakers, taste, room acoustics mean that speaker recommends are fairly pointless until you hear them in your room system.
once made a purchase after shop demo, took the actual pair of speakers home that I had listened to and liked in the shop, all equipment was as my set up. But once home it turned out to be a terrible choice. Back to shop more listening.............
I run fact 8’s with 552/300,, very nice speakers, beautifully made and they were a material upgrade from the SL2’s that went before them.
lots of choice out there so home demo is essential and it helps if you have a supportive dealer.

I used them with a supernait2 to good result. Maybe not optimal, but very good nonetheless.
Great speakers, but very vulnerable for blemishes and scratches.
What colour are your fact 8.,,

ok thanks but I can not home demo so what size is your listening space and how far from back wall are the speakers,
I love mine, I first heard them about 6 years ago and have always thought for me they ticked the boxes of both an amazing sounding speaker, and given they are quite big speakers, they look very elegant and I think quite subtle for their size, most decent sounding bigger speakers range from awkward to carbuncle, in my opinion of course.
Recently a pair came up on ebay at reasonable money so I went for it. One thing I would say that surprised me, unlike my previous FB1's, they seem very forgiving to me, they have transformed recordings I previously thought of as lacking, everything is improved, they don't make poor recordings sound unlistenable and with well recorded sources they are very very capable, they always sound natural and never have that oppressive bludgeoning bass I so dislike.
I'm using an Olive 250, 272 and CDX, and as I don't have an extensive vinyl collection a systemdek TT with Rega arm. However I mainly streaming Tidal these days which I may well prefer over the CDX. I would like to hear them with a PS, but I'm pretty much at the end of my upgrade journey other than that.
Mine are in very good nick, but I can see the finish may well be delicate as they look more French polished than varnished.

I had to search because the thought of french polishing speaker cabinets conjures images of many many man hours of hand finishing.
The Fact 8 brochure says "finished in a delicate laquer".
Oh I didn't mean they were French polished, but the finish does look delicate and you have to be careful with them.
BTW, my room is quite big 20'x 14' and I have them in a bay window about 10" away from the angled part of the wall.
They don't seem to be overly position fussy.
ok thanks my room is split so I can have a 10 f wide 14 f long or open doors between 2 room and have another 18 f I length the second room is 13 wide so I have not only one option.
Have you found a pair. I got mine for £2700 which I think is fair.
not yet I do have the twenty5 23 which are very good very detailed in sound but I want a speaker to go deeper and I do think the 5.5 driver suit my room which the facts have.

Totally off topic, no criticism intended. I grew up in a DIY family, my grandfather had worked at a shop-fitting company and taught me the basics, my father then expanded and my first pair of speakers were Whiteley Stentorians in 3 cubic foot cabinets from a G A Briggs book. They were veneered using pearl glue, heated on a Primus stove in the garage and my attempts at french polishing took best part of a school summer holiday!

The Irish distributor is in Dublin - haven’t they got one or able to get one for you to audition? Speakers are so influential on the sound that I would be hesitant to buy without hearing.
That said, Fact8 being a transmission line design from the same stable as your twenty5.23, and taking into account the sound of its bigger brother, the Fact 12 (which I found quite a remarkable speaker, aside from its clarity having a depth that belied its diminutive size), it might be worth the risk.
No they only sell the Twenty series not the fact.
Mine are in a 6m square room

My second speakers (DIY like te first but better) I veneered with iron-on veneer, which was already available in 1970/71, and French polished - my dad showed me how, likewise that was a school holiday job! Not quite up to the finish of a proper cabinet- maker, but I was proud of them!
Johnny have you considered the Twenty.26 as an alternative to Fact.8 if you like PMC's?
Yes but the drivers are 2 big.
Johnny5 posted:Yes but the drivers are 2 big.
??? The drivers rather han the speakers?
The drivers
Johnny5 posted:The drivers
On what basis?
Johnny is that because they make the cabinets too wide or do you not like the look of them? It's only the bass driver that is any larger than the twenty5.23's you already have.
