HDX and Hi Res downloads

Posted by: Amer on 03 February 2018

Hi, I'm considering an HDX but wanted to know if it's possible to download and store Hi Res music on it without having to use a computer. Can anybody enlighten me please? Thanks. Best wishes Amer

It will play hi-res up to 24/192, but not DSD. You do need a computer to download the files, though, then save them to a downloads folder on the HDX.

In addition to that: only the 2TB versions have that ‘download’ folder. So best avoid the older alternatives out there ...

You don't need a computer. If your HDX sits on a network, which I presume it does, you can have a NAS anywhere on your network on which you can store files.

Admittedly, this might look comparatively inelegant compared to storing everything on the HDX.  Until your HDX fails.

Unless prices for the hdx has dropped significantly I would be worried about buying a  product where software is not being developped.I have many positives to say about the old server platform, but I would not pay the price that was asked when it was launched 10 years ago.

the only way you can  avoid a computer in the mix and play highres is if you are subscribed to a service like qobuz. With all downloads you will need a computer, and also at least some times you will have to edit meta data.

Best would be to look for an SSD version.

Computer will be needed anyway, to manage music downloads.

Yeah. Good point now you mention it.
