My phone now a 10

Posted by: joerand on 23 March 2018

A 10 year-old phone that is. It's a Samsung flip phone still with its original battery and charger bought in February 2008 and it functions flawlessly. It initially ran for a week+ between charges, now goes 2-3 days. Fits in my pocket like a car key fob. It has survived all drops without an external case, costs $15 a month on my family plan, and shows no built-in obsolescence. I don't feel tied to it or lost without it. I'm not constantly fingering it, I don't use it while driving, I don't impudently drop real-time conversations when it makes a noise, and it controls little else in my life (I do use it as an alarm clock).

Might not be a "smartphone" per se, but as mobile phones go it's been as convenient and practical a device as I desire.

Can you use the interweb on it.

Why do you need to... it's a 'phone!

You want the interweb, use a mobile computer!

My mobile computer stays charged for 7-10 days and happens to function as a 'phone as well; but it's a bit too big to conveniently fit in a pocket.
(However I actually don't need it to fit in a pocket so that's no problem!)

Naaa. I'll stick with my iPhone thanks. I've somehow managed to work out how to turn it off when I want to, and turn off notifications if that's what I want. In fact, it does pretty much what I tell it to do.

iPhone SE is the best handset I've owned nice size and plenty powerful.

Yep. I've been pleased with mine too.

I haven't had a mobile phone since 2002. Best action of omission I have done in my adult life.

Although wedded to my IPad.

I had to change several phones every time when I changed the service provider. For now I am on Pantech ATT phone.
I loath any type of smart phone and still hanging on to an hard key phone. Plus I have a habit of losing a phone. :/

All I want from my phone is to make a call and receive a call.

Yes, but I've never tried it so I can't speak to it's functionality. I do my interwebbing at home or in the office. My car has built-in GPS as well as hands-free Bluetooth capability that can connect to my phone. I've never felt a need to pair them.

iPhone 8 - connects to my car my car for seemless communication, I can send journeys to my car in advance - as both are on-line now....

I’ve been using iPhones for more than 10 years now -  great time-saving devices.
