No Roon for "heritage" streaming. ..

Many may be like me...  I've got a ND5XS. Too old for the jazzy new Roon malarkey.

However, not all is lost. If an album that I'm curious about doesn't have enough info behind the picture on my Tidal account, I can still find out all about it. Plus link it to other connected info if I want.

And the name of this miracle?

Ahem.

I’m inclined to agree with you, although Roon does seem to apoeal to metadata junkies, the iOS device you already have in your hand gives you an instant, free link to Rovi, Wikipedia, artists websites, and whatever else the net can provide.

Of course, Roon evangelists will be keen to point out that it can so more than just show you information, although I still can’t quite convince myself that I really need it. If you really want it on your ‘legacy’ streamer, there’s always Airplay.

Small Green Computers Sonic Transporter running Roon Core and its own UPNP bridge alongside will allow streaming from Roon to classic Naim streamers. The Micro-rendu does similarly apparently.  Never tried, seen or heard it ion action but would like to!

I am trying Robin at the moment via my MacBook although I haven’t managed to use it via my SOtM sms 100 apparently if I’m using Squeezelite Roon will ‘see’ it as a Squeezebox and allow me to stream to it.

I already have HQ Player on my SOtM so Roon can’t improve on the sound I already have I can already stream Tidal and I don’t have enough files to warrant the cost.

So I think I will leave it after the free trial. I can see the appeal but not for someone whose entire music collection is on vinyl b

I once thought the same thing. No more. But my gain, your loss. You have no clue until you at least trial it. And yes, the micro or Ultra Rendu or any of the ST’s will Bridge mode to Naim streamers.

In fairness I had difficulty with Robin as well.

Indeed, strangely enough, for a streaming platform it handles vinyl very poorly.

It’s also a matter of what your time is worth. I couldn’t be bothered to jump back and forth from the Naim or Tidal app (which is terrible compared to the Ron integration of Tidal) and a browser when in Roon it’s all there for you. Esp good is the artists’s view, as it shows pics of the artists along with their listing (as long as pic is available though you can add your own). Makes the artist view really come alive vs just reading a list. And with Tidal integrated, you want to know what else Roy Haynes plays on? Just click on his name, and you get not only what’s in your collection, but also what’s available on Tidal. One click later and a virtual copy is in your library. Oh, Roland Kirk is on bass? Next thing you know another half dozen examples of his playing I’ve never heard before are now in my library. Of course the Tidal titles go away if I quit my subscription or Tidal goes bankrupt, but at least I’ve now been exposed to those titles and can find elsewhere as physical copies if it’s a must have.
