Musing on the NAC282

Third upgrade in - ATC SCM19's/Chord Epic/NAP 250.2

The 250.2 (ebay bargain) has been running for 4 hours now and I'm enjoying the benefits already. Looking forward to day 3 when full warm-up kicks in.

I upgraded to the 250.2 from a 200 to better fit the ATC's. I read here and elsewhere that the NAC282 is a much better fit for the 250 than my current NAC202/Fluffytoy/NAPSC.

Depending on how the current setup sounds after full warmup,  I might consider improving the preamp.

Thing us... all that functionality! It will only have to cope with a single ND5XS input.  I don't use "balance" and don't need the record functions or all but one of the inputs and yet, it seems to me, a lot of what I'd be forking out for is all this stuff I don't need.

Just been offered a 2003 NAC282 @ £1858.

What does the team think?

Has it been serviced? I’d expect to pay around £1500 for a 2002/3 unseviced model, even less. You can have it serviced then for £249.00.

£1,500 is very, very cheap for a 2003,  282 and for your information the 282 comes with a Napsc as standard so £1858 without a Napsc is expensive so you have room for bargaining there. If it does have a Napsc and you dont need it then again you have room for movement on the price.

I traded a 2006 202 plus £800 for a 2003 282 without a Napsc with Tom Tom Audio and that came with a 12 month guarantee.

Actually you can order the 282 with or without the NAPSC as standard with appropriate price differences.. I ordered my 282 new without NAPSC as I already had one...

282 DAC-V1. Compatible?

Posted on: 11 February 2018 by Bob the Builder

Yes you can specify that you do not want the Napsc but a new 282 without Napsc will still cost about £4,000.  You can buy a used model have it fully serviced with all the sevice updates with or without a Napsc for less than £2,000.

282 DAC-V1. Compatible?

Posted on: 11 February 2018 by Bob the Builder

I would think you can connect a DAC-V1 to a 282 I connected a UQ2 to one however with prices for Mk1 Hugo's and 2Qutes what they are around £650 I'd be tempted to sell the V1 and buy one.

Having heard a 2qute I’d advise caution on that one. The V1 may be inferior on detail but which you’d prefer will be down to personal taste. I find the 2qute detailed and rhythmic but too clinical to enjoy, I even prefered the Rega with a suitable digital cable (not a Chord). The V1 I’ve never heard as it was getting too dear for a temporary solution but it has a fixed output setting I believe, selectable in the software, a DIN4 to DIN5 interconnect will do the rest.

yeti42 you have a 552/500 one below a statement Naim amp,  so why you would connect a £900 source to that amp I don't know.

Because I’m waiting for what turns out to be the ND555, I guessed it would only be a few years at most and my attention is held by vinyl at present anyway.

I’ve run out of storeage space for vinyl in the living room so the CDs have to go, they’re actually going to join my CDX2/282/Hi/250 and Thiel CS1.6 in our flat in the south of France.

That makes me sound like a high flyer but it’s more a case of out living my mortgage, both parents and a couple of aunts, as well as some of my wifes relatives (hence the flat). The ND555, if it's as good as hoped, will be my last box upgrade and the end of the inherited cash, which paid for the 552/500 (and my first new motorcycle in 32 years).

Good on you. Better than putting the cash in a savings account and watching it depreciate. Life is for living, not waiting.
