Can you connect a unity to a supernait’1’

Hi, I’m a new Naim owner. This is probably a ridiculous question. I have a supernait’1’ and currently considering a cd5 second hand. However I would also like to stream and a radio. I was wondering if it is possible or, if it is a bad idea, to connect a unity to a supernait so that I get the superior sound quality of the supernait. I can’t afford lots of separates at the moment. Thanks

Andy, you can connect the Uniti to the Supernait via the Uniti's Line Out RCA phonos. Alternatively you could use the Uniti pre-out and input to the Supernait via a Unity Gain enabled input. This would effectively turn your Supernait into a power amp on that input and the Uniti would then be sources and pre-amp. Which you choose will depend on your priorities, although I would guess that the pre in the Supernait is of a higher quality than in the Uniti, so...

Hi Richard. That’s much appreciated. I’m just getting into the world of HiFi and probably should just get a separate CD player but food for thought... thanks for answering my question. Kind regards, andy

Good advice from Richard. Use the RCA line out and connect it to a din or RCA analoque input on the SN. The SN pre and power amp is of better quality!

Your main issue would be that while the collected sources in the Uniti are good, they aren't really at a level commensurate with your Supernait. For CD replay, think at the very least a CD5x, better still a CDX2...

It's a shame the Unity doesn't have a digital output as this would feed the Supernait 1 dac.

If you really want your Supernait to sing, I would wait until you can afford an NDX. Rip your CDs to a NAS, and you won’t need the CD player, which makes your money go further.

Thanks everyone. Great advice - things are a lot clearer now. I’m going to go the separates route after all.

Good decision! Take your time and listen to a few different options if you can - then buy an NDX!
