Server music list appears on Ipad but not Iphone ?

Posted by: David Weller on 13 February 2018

Hi All

Just set up Synology NAS drive as a server and want to add all my music to it.

I cant see how to access it from the Uniti Atom front panel or remote. I can access and play from ipad only. When i try and access via Iphone i just get blank page with server name and a spinning wheel ?

Any ideas ?

Thanks

The remote on the new streamers will not control the UPnP input for some reason, so you have to use the app. Not sure why your iPhone can't see it? Have you tried closing the app (double click the home button, and swipe up to shut it down) then reopen it.

I tried that, even removed the app completely

Weird Ipad works fine !

Strange indeed! What iPhone model and iOS version are you using?

Is your iPhone on the same wifi network as your iPad? The Naim app only works over wifi and it needs to be on the same network as your Atom.

As Chris says not being able to use the remote to browse and select upnp music is correct. For whatever reason, that is what Naim has decided to implement.

David,

Can you use your iPhone to control the Atom if you switch off your iPad or close the app on the iPad? I believe that the naim streamers will only respond to one control point at any one time. Could this be the cause of your issue?

iPhone and iPad are on the same WiFi both are updated to latest iOS

iPad and iPhone both work fine separately or at the same time and will both do everything.

The iPhone detects the NAS under servers but will not load the content

Tried resetting APP removed APP and re-installed

iphone is 6s

Try using another UPnP AV control point (such as BubbleUPnP).

N.B.  If the iPad still has a connection to the Atom when you try to connect with the iPhone, the results will be unpredictable.  As sjbabbey says, you can only successfully use one control point at a time.

I'm not sure this restriction applies to the Atom? In any case he has covered this in his last posting.

David, his last post contained contradictory statements

"iPad and iPhone both work fine separately or at the same time and will both do everything."
"The iPhone detects the NAS under servers but will not load the content"

I wished to point out that the UPnP AV protocols assume (but do not enforce) one control point for each device; using more than one is unpredictable - it may work, it may not (and this can depend on all the components - control point, media server & renderer/player).

When fault finding it's definitely best to keep things simple and keep to the intended use of the UPnP AV protocols, anything else just complicates matters and can cause much confusion.

OK Huge but I think it's pretty clear that he means his iPad works fine and will load the content and his iPhone works fine except it won't load the content.

His question is: why is this?

Thanks all for the responses

it would appear no issue with the iPhone, NAS has a facility to allow or block devices.

for some unknown reason all devices allowed except one MAC address when I queried the MAC address it turns out to be the iPhone.

Having told NAS to allow this address iPhone works fine.

PS no issues whatsoever using, remote, iPad, iPhone at similar times. Just powered on and selected radio with remote, changed channel with iPad and adjusted volume with iPhone

All working fine

Thanks

So that's the reason! Well done finding it and thanks for reporting it back here. No doubt that will help us advise someone else sometime.
