Apologies if this has already been answered. Are Naim running open demonstrations or will they be ticketed as in previous years?
Many thanks
Look at the show website.
Funny enough I had already thought of that ... but thank you for the suggestion.
Usually ticketed....it will interesting to see what they have on show this year
The reason for asking is I have limited time on the day. I have been to the show many times and try to plan my day upfront. Naim do not always update their entry on the show website to reflect if they are running closed demonstrations. With some other manufacturers also requiring pre booking (Monitor Audio, Chord Company as two previous examples) I thought it was worth asking upfront.
Anyway I look forward to the show and I know Naim always come up trumps.
Hi Adeo407,
I am also keen to get a ticket for whatever Naim may be demo’ing.
I have not been for 30 years but I believe you have go to thNaim room on the top floor to get a ticket..... I may be wrong so please correct me anyone out there who knows.
Richard
You would probably be best advised to contact Naim about what arrangements there are in place for demos.
IIRC the 10th floor used to be where Naim would conduct their big ticketed demos. However some years back the Marriott decided to remodel that floor and cut down the large rooms in size. That made them far less attractive for demonstration purposes so Naim abandoned that floor.
For the last three years Naim have been on the first floor, right above the hotel entrance.
usually you book their for the demo’s, I’m sure whatever is on dem you won’t be disappointed
I have just downloaded the show guide and it looks like Naim is in three locations:
- Executive Lounge;
- Terrace 1a & 1b;
- Brunel Suite.
which one to go to for tickets is not clear.
For the last few years the tickets have been available on the Terrace and the closed room dems have taken place in the Executive Lounge. The Naim room on the lower ground floor is a new addition this year though!
Thank you for replies. As mentioned tickets are bookable from stand on Terrace.
if someone can take a photo of the back of the nd555, and also ask if the naim nd555 500 series streamer will have to be powered by one or 2 555 ps at minimum....thanks

Hello Richard
I know this is a bit off topic but do you know how long has the Bristol show been at the Marriott. I can't recognise the road layout from Google earth but the front of the hotel looks the same. I used to walk across a pedestrian walkover across a four lane main road from a small carpark to get to it. I'm probably talking about 30 years or more.

if your limit credit card is 30k, you will be tempted to buy the nd555...be careful. better leave the card at home.
TONYI,
It’s been at The Marriott for just over 30 years as far as I can remember, so yes it is the same location you mention. I too used that car park in 1987, when I returned after the show, my Ford Escort had been broken into and my radio/cassette player had been nicked...

Tony, it's been at the Marriott for a number for years - I think I first went in the '90s - but don't know exactly when it began. There has been a lot of redevelopment of the surrounding area though. But there are a number of multi-story car parks both nearby and adjacent to the hotel.
Richard, my first visit to the Bristol HI Fi show was around 1982 not to sure the venue (It wasn't the Marriot) possibly a Hotel in the Clifton area ?
It has usually been at the Marriott (formerly Holiday Inn I believe) but for at least one year (about 20 years ago) it was at the Grand Hotel, Broad Street which I liked better.

I think you are correct. I can remember it being just across from the suspension bridge, It might have been in a hotel on Sion hill but I can only see the Avon Gorge Hotel a bit further down. afaik the floors were wood which did not go down well with the turntable manufacturer's. I will have to turn out some old magazines and find out.
There was a hotel on Sion Hill called the St. Vincent Rocks Hotel. Just up from and opposite the Avon Gorge Hotel. It’s now flats but might it have been that one?

The St V Rocks show was in the early 80s. Famously, Celestion debuted the SL6 in 82 or 83 using Crimson Elektrik amps and a top LP12 (and it did sound exceptional).

Salmon Dave, thanks I thought it was in that area.
I'm very interested in a NAC-N 272 successor. So if somebody could try to get some information out of the Naim booth when a NAC-N 272 successor could be released (I think it will be sometime in 2019), that would be great!
I think a lot of people would like that information but Naim are highly unlikely to divulge any information of this nature.
