Uniti Atom - Sound Adjustment

Posted by: CrazyTrain on 16 February 2018

Hi there. I'm an absolute newbie to the Atom and have only just go into HiFi, so please bear with me. I've ripped my CD collection in FLAC onto an external hard drive which i connected to the Atom via the front USB. Works perfectly. However, i don't seem to have any control over sound apart from volume and left/right speaker controls via the Naim App.

Id like to know if there is any way that i can adjust bass/treble/equaliser.

Thank for your help

Afraid not, tone controls are not typical on high end hifi these days. You may find, as I did, that the Atom is a bit boomey when new and it will take quite a while to settle in fully, adjusting speaker positions will greatly affect how it sounds so best to experiment a bit

Naim have always rejected tone controls as they put extra electronics in the signal path, which can degrade sound quality. If you have specific issues to compensate for, that is often down to room acoustics, and the first thing I would experiment with is loudspeaker positioning.

If you really want to alter the sound, it can be done digitally. Try the Roon free trial if you're curious, as it includes the modern digital equivalent of an old fashioned graphic equaliser.

Even altering the sound digitally still comes with a sound quality penalty.  It's much better to fix the acoustic problem in the first place.

Have you set Maximum Volume to be 100? It’s in Audio Setting.

It is set to 100. Volume is not the issue. The room (setup) isn't ideal and speaker placement is limited. Have to find a plan B.
