naim and LP12

Posted by: Franz K on 18 February 2018

Given all the more or less recent and most recent upgrades and third party improvements for the LP12 such as Khan, Carmen, Keel, Tranquility, Urika, Urika II, Radikal, Lingo IV, Booplinth, Stiletto, Skorpion, Eklipse, and this list is far from complete, it is truly a pity that  naim discontinued the ARO some while ago.   Isnt it time for an ARO revival, possibly even a super ARO?

Tonearms are small niche market in todays audio climate

Guess Naim having other priorities

Perhaps roksan Nima or the Danish Moerch arm will be close aproach, others ?

Well now, over on the L*nn forum, they seem to be getting themselves into a bit of a spin at the prospect of an undisclosed new arm due to be revealed this spring time.  No details provided, not even a hint as to who the manufacturer may be - presumably not a Naim surprise!!

An arm over the SE? Must cost a fortune, the Ekos SE costs almost 5000€ here...

I have a strong feeling it will not be manufactured by Linn...

Vertere?

To be honest..if I didn't already have a nice aro already

I would be knocking on Jonnie 7's door at audio origami for his excellent uni pivot arm

I can’t imagine the Aro is to be reborn.

There just seems to be little commitment to Analogue. Hasn’t the Armogedden been dropped?

Yes, the Geddon is gone. But Naim could always follow UKIP's example - recognize a mistake and change

A new ARO? No chance. But I don't care 'cos I've got one, so eat your hearts out suckers!

Yours affectionally etc.

I know it's considered by some to be a poor man's Aro but a new Roksan Nima (named after the Aro) at £599 is also considered to be the best vfm tonearm out there. Has anyone tried one?

Posted on: 18 February 2018 by The Strat (Fender)

Heard one on a Roksan Radius - very good.

Posted on: 18 February 2018 by The Strat (Fender)

In fact I reckon Roksan Radius/Nima)Stage,ine/Nait XS/speakers to match would be brilliant system.

I’m wondering whether a Nima will be an affordable introduction to a unipivot and an upgrade on my ittock LVII.

Posted on: 18 February 2018 by The Strat (Fender)

Urm not sure about an upgrade Bob.   Talk to the great Dr in Leicester.

Posted on: 19 February 2018 by Ardbeg10y

Cymbiosis does sell them: 'We have a number of nice used Roksan Nima Tonearms' - is mentioned on their site.

Peter says the Nima is a great value starting point for the LP12.  With regard to the Artemiz it’s now discontinued which is a great shame.  I doubt Roksan will resurrect it.  The Vetere arms are superb though.

I bought one of the last Aro’s Over 10 years ago way better than the Ittok to me a night and day effect use it on the Linn with an Armeggedon again above the Lingo.

Wouldn't a Kore give you more?

Possibly but a Kore will cost me in advance of £450 whilst a Nima bought with the proceeds of my ittock would cost me £100 and for a brand spanking new tonearm.  So far as the Kore goes I have had too many disappointments waiting for some night and day difference and ending up straining to hear the most subtle changes  in my system to be anything but very sceptical about these types of market driven upgrades.

I have stated before my cloth ears are not as fined tuned as some on this and other forums

I had a Nima fitted by Peter about 2 weeks ago, If you are to make the move to the Nima I would recommend the upgraded tonearm cable and sKale. I am over the moon with the difference for what was not so  much of an outlay.

And before that, what?

Still with my Ekos SE. Lovely arm especially with the Kandid. Played sparingly though as I can’t face the cost of a replacement cartridge right now!
