ND5 XS System Automation Settings to Control Nait XS and CD5x

Posted by: RERobbins on 19 February 2018

I am looking for some help in setting up an ND5 XS so that the remote and iOS app will allow me to control a Nait XS and CD5x.

I've run a cable from one of the remote outs on the ND5 XS to the remote input on the Nait.

Not sure if that's all the cabling necessary or if I need to tether the ND5 XS to the CD5x as well.

Finally, I am confused about how to set the System Automation settings so that my ND5 XS remote will allow me to change input sources from the Nait XS and control the CD5x too.

Thanks in advance,

-- Rich

You indeed need to run a cable to the CD5x to include it in System Automation. Mind you that you won’t be able to use the ND5 remote to control the usual CDP functions. You can only do that via an App. ????

OK.  Can you confirm that I will need a male to male 3.5mm cable for that purpose?

I'm still confused about what System Automation setting changes I'd need to make on the ND5 XS to get things running even after I've made the connection from the ND5 XS to both the NAIT XS and CD5x.

Have you read the manual ?

I think I may have found the answer.  System Automation instructions for the NDX can be found here.  The document describes connecting the NDX.  I hope the NDX XS works the same way.

The NDX XS manual doesn't include sufficiently detailed instructions.   I just located System Automation guidance on the naim website though.

Try this - Section 4.9

It's easy to miss. You'll need 3.5mm to 3.5mm leads from the ND5XS to both the Nait and the CD5XS to allow the system automation function to control both units. A mono or stereo cable will be fine.

Ugh.  I have become lost in Naim model designations.  I don't have a CD5 XS, I have a CD5x.  There is no input on the back of that device identified as Remote In.  There is one marked RC5 input, but I don't think that's the same thing.  The manual says that input is for enabling multi room applications.  It's also not a female connector for a 3.5mm male plug.  I assume that means I'm just going to need to be satisfied using System Automation to control the inputs from the NAIT and the ND5 without being able to control CD functions.

The RC5 input is correct. You need a mono 3.5mm to RCA cable instead for the CD5x.

Thank you very much.
