Sotm into supernait

Posted by: longmanjon on 22 February 2018

hi all

i interested in trying out an sotm-200 into my supernait, what is the best way of connecting it up as I need to use the usb out but the supernait doesn’t have a usb, can I just use an adapter or would this degrade the sound.

i don’t want to have to buy the sotm-usb just to trial it

Best way to connect it is a high end USB DAC - there are lots of them, take your pick.

Thanks huge, as the supernait has an internal dac is it not better to utilise that or add another one as you suggest

I guess you would need a USB to SPDIF converter. Never used one myself, but a number of forum members have, so I’m sure someone could chip in with a suggestion. Maybe Gustard U12?

Thanks chrissu, this is a bit outside my knowledge area with dac’s and the best options

Are you fixed on trying the Sotm ? If not then the Auralic Aries mini would be worth looking at and has a coaxial S/PDIF output so it can connect directly to your SN.

I have an auralic Aries le already, just having a play around as I’d heard good things about the sotm

i have the auralic mini direct to the auralic dac and it is excellent replacement to the hugo that failed twice so had to go.   A  ndx digital out is also goes to the dac  . there is only slight differences with high rez files

An Audiophileo USB to SPDIF converter would be excellent.

I have the predecessor to the sotm 200 the sms 100 and have connected to a USB Dac (Chord 2Qute) there is no reason why it will not work connected to your SN and decent USB>>Spdif converters are relatively inexpensive the Gustard mentioned above is one I used a Breeze Audio DU-U8 which can be had for less than £100 over on eBay.

The USB>>Spdif converter takes the USB signal and a decent one like the DU-U8 will clean that signal up and convert it it to a Spdif output and can then be connected to the digital in on your SN however the sotm streamers are designed to work best  with USB Dac's. A Chord 2Qute has an excellent is one such Dac that has a galvanically isolated USB in socket and because you are connecting it to a SN it's high gain wont be an issue either.

The Schiit Eitr is a relatively inexpensive USB to SPDIF converter. I have compared it to my old M2Tech hiFace Evo (powered by a TP LPS) and to a more expensive (and flexible) Mutec MC-3+ USB and decided to keep the Eitr. It works out of the box, see also https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...sb-audiobyte-hydra-z.
