No Bristol Show for me this year

Posted by: Gavin L on 25 February 2018

Very disappointed.  Heading off early this morning to arrive in Bristol early - visiting for the first time.  Suddenly on the M4 - “bang” - my glass sunroof shattered.  Needless to say it was a slow journey home .

Would be very interested to hear about what I missed.  Especially any good - high end - system demos.

That’s very unfortunate, I’m at the show today with Finkfan, will post some pictures for you later

Whatever caused that, hope nothing thrown off a bridge? Guess main thing is you are OK

Wenger - thanks, lookforward to seeing your posts later.

Gazza - not sure what caused it.   Bit of a shock, but got home ok.  Could have been a lot worse.

Apologies Gavin L

unfortunately most other pictures, someone managed to gate crash the photo.

Myself and Finkfan managed to organise an extra trip to the Quadresphire factory, arguably more interesting then the show itself.

Nordost were selling/demoing the virtues of their little pyramid cones, which are carefully placed under your boxes as in the picture.

Do these magic cones simply not exert undue pressure on the underside of the casing?

Apparently not, they have to be strategically placed under the box near the transformer or mother board ect ect , they do give the feeling that the box could tip over at any time

Great pictures Wenger - much appreciated!

Did naim have the NDS(?) up and running through those focals?  I was hoping to get the chance to hear some alternative setups (from my active DBLs).

I use Fraim myself, so don’t think I would have much use for the cones.  Unless, I end up adding a streamer to the top of the “brawn” stack, and then it might be worth trying.

The cones are only necessary on an extremely poor quality rack, or if you have no rack ie using sideboard ect, the new Quadresphire product does a similar job but only if you don’t have a rack.

Naim unfortunately we’re not demoing anything in particular the new boxes were just for show, the acoustics in the room were very poor so what they did have on on show was not sounding at its best.

They had another room showcasing the Focal Kanta 2,s ...I think on the end of a Nova?
